Call up The Mustang Depot. 951-369-0200.

Ask for John and tell him you're doing a 5.4 build and a guy from the boards told you to call. He'll hook you up nice and proper like. Rods are 320 for forged H-beams with arp 2000 bolts, pistons are about 500 with rings. Since you're popping for a crank you might as well make sure to get a forged one.

Also are the cam specs on the 5.4 different than the 4.6?

no the PI cams for the 2v at least are the same as in the mustang, same with NPI cams/heads. There are several different cam profiles for the various 4v motors but I don't imagine you care much about those. Keep in mind that the 5.4 has a .120 deck clearance (distance from piston top to deck at TDC) where the 4.6 is .008. This means you can run BIG cams without any real worry of PTV contact since you've got all that extra room. 5.4's go all gaga over big cams.

Here is my thought process. I want to build this a cheap as possible. So what I am thinking is the typical power and tq numbers fall off at around 42-4500 on the 5.4s. This being due to, I can only assume, poor intake design. If the cams were VERY similar, then I could keep the stock cams and spray at about 4000 to make up for the bad intake. Thoughts?

other way around on the source of the issue. the intake is fine.. a little long in the runners I'll grant but it can support a good bit of flow. The stock heads and cams are the first issue that should be addressed. You can easily pick up 30+hp and not lose much tq (if not usually gain a bit) with a set of ported heads and a fat cam. After that one of the intakes from HPS (www.hiperformancesolutions.com) will be able to support more flow and has shorter runners.

I've got my HPS intake:

The cams and head porting can stretch the power peak out to 5k or a bit higher, and adding a free-er flowing intake takes it a step further.

So far I've gotten some positive responses on comp xe262's being able to pass the sniffer so you can make it through smog. Spray should come on probably around 3K rpm and shut of at 5200 (when you shift).

I'm out in the Tri-Valley so I have to deal with the same smog ***** you do.

Just picked up a set of cams. Stage 3 custom grind blower cams (need the wide LSA for smog) from HCI Motorsports. Used with low miles for 100 bucks.

Specs should be around 238/242 .545/.545 114. We're still working out what they are but custom cams for 100 bux I just couldn't pass up.

If that is the sce then I guess I will just get upgraded valvesprings and run more spray. Ported heads and cam are over $2k. I'll stick to $15 jets and high test.

Oh and I have no worries with smog. Never have never will.

I was thinking more like 50 for chains and sprockets and 150 for the front cover. There's a bit over 500 bucks in parts there.

Guys, due to unforseen surcumstances, i have to sell all my 5.4 stuff. I have been hit w/ medical bills (plus have to have knee surgery again), and i am pretty sure that my work is gonna lay off ALOT of people, so i need to sell before its too late.

i have a block (needs prepped and cleaned), factory forged crank(just had it polished and its ready to set it), intake, fuel rails, injectors, front cover, chains and guides, oil pan, and i know i am missin a few parts.

I paid $150 for the block, $200 for the crank, $50 for cleaning the crank, $250 for the other misc. parts. i will sell for $500. all you will need is rods/pistons/heads.

pick up only, or i might meet if its a short distance for a serious buyer.

Sick burn... Hope everything pans out for you. Has the crank been turned at all or just polished? Basically, Are the main and rod journals factory diameter?

I've got a bunch of dowel pins. I'll try and include enough stuff that you can bolt on a front cover from a bare block. Call it 80 shipped.

just picked up this:

http://www.dynotunenitrous.com/store...?idproduct=151

Wideband O2 controller and sensor kit that converts my existing narrowband Autometer guage to a fully functional wideband sensor. I figured with the SCT Pro-Racer pack and the wideband setup I can tune the car on the street under real aerodynamic load and save myself all those hours on the dyno and the cost associated with that kind of tuning.

just bought another set of heads... much more radical than the last ones. Anybody want to buy my other set of ported heads? They come unassembled but with all the parts to put them together... might even include my spring compressor. heavily ported, stock valvetrain, PI cams if you want them. make offer.
