Wow. Lol

Ok, yah, so i was messing around trying to find some window tint online. I was hoping to find some 3M. Apparently this stuff is too good to sell to the private individual. I have to contact the regional sales rep for 3m window tinting to purchase this ****. It also says i need to sumbit my company information........

is there a secret decoder ring that goes along with it as well?

I have all kinds of crap by 3m. Why the hell cant i just go on a website and order up a good ol roll of 20% window tint?

I want to tint my honda. Ive done vinyls and decals and stuff before, i cant imagine that it is all that different. I know how to make stencils, i know how to make the decal solution so you can easily work out all the bubbles. I know how to work a squeegie..... i mean... give me a ****ing break, window tint is just a big *** custom fit sticker....

Seriously, is there more to this? Are there special techniques that must be passed from a master to the apprentice? I just cant understand this Window-Tint-FreeMason socioty.

just sell me a roll of fuggin tint.

I'd go with the stuff they have at walmart, but at 19 bucks a roll i dont know ho much i trust it.

Im sure it's not as easy as it looks.. But I used to hang out at my local Tiny / Vinyl shop all the time (used to sponsor my jr. late model & baby grand) and he could tint in his sleep. He tinted the windows in my Mustang in like 20 min, and they're still perfect. He didn't even use any templates, he literally just took a razor blade and freehanded my strip on the top of my windshield, and around the mirror perfectly.. I was in awe of that trick lol.

It's really just a matter of getting the solution mixxed and applied evenly so the film doesn't try to peel or bubble on the corners.. If you can do that, you're set.

 

yeah im pretty confidant i could do it and get it right... i did the rally stripes on my mustang, i also have done them on 3 other vehicles and at first it was a bit tough but it got pretty easy. i figure it pretty much goes the same as large vinyls.

the good thing about the honda is i only have 2 rollup windows to deal with. The rear windows can be pulled off pretty easily, and there is the hatch which shouldnt be too hard since it lifts up.

that honda is a fuggin fishbowl without the tint. i feel like im on display when i drive the damn thing.

 

Yeah, Vinyl's are a little more simple than tint but overall the same principle applies. Main difference is that vinyl's won't bubble up after the fact like tint will, that's why the mixture/ prep work is so much more vital w/ tint.

With Vinyl's you get the bubbles out and they don't come back, with tint, if you don't get all of the moisture/ bubbles out, they will come back to haunt you! lol

 

AHhhh.... so i better really clean the **** out of the glass.

i may just pick up some el-cheapo stuff from walmart and do the 2 rear side windows and see how it goes. if it goes a month without bubbling then do the rest.

Honestly, unless you're really worried about making it look incredible I really don't see why you need expensive tint. Maybe check with Auto Zone, or something like that and see what they have.

It's really all about the prep/ finish work..

 

PS, they say to trace and outline ...

You can just lay a nice big piece of tint over the outside of your window('s) and cut it to size.. Just make sure you have a nice sharp razor blade..

Also a big thing that people tend to miss.. use DISTILLED water.
