Reichard Racing makes adapter plates for the intake. Get a set. 375 bucks.

A built motor costs almost 7K no matter how you do it.
I am not looking to turbo or spray, so I feel this may be the way I want to go. Sounding like the best bang for the buck. How reliable are these?

I was wondering how much of a hassle would it be to drop in a 2005 5.4l 3 valve engine. Assuming you could find a cheap enough engine. What would this swap take to do?

i would think u would need the computer and harness to fit your car if it isn't a 3v. you can get a 5.4 2v out of a running truck or van for 1k - 1500 easliy

i got mine for doing computer work for this shop that wanted to track thier work and money. so i hooked them up and they gave me a running motor out of a rolled over van. all i bought was the adapter plates and the shop let me use thier space after hours. all in all it cost me 300 bucks in cash and 4 or 5 hours in working on thier computers to get my car going. so i can say it was alot cheaper then you think and the rewards are having a real street car that runs like a champ.

the 05+ 4.6L blocks for mustangs mount differently than the 04 and earlier. I'd imagine the trucks are the same way. You'll want to check that the mounting systems are the same as they used to be. Alternately you can slap 3v heads and intake on a standard 03 or earlier block and you're there. Look for substantial hp gains with such a setup (and minimum tq losses too... )

Having a car that'll do 165mph (myillwillinc) on 87 octane is kinda neat though.

yea but being a stock engine with 80k miles it died a couple months later. so i imagine that stunt didn't help the life of it.

now the new motor being all forged......... should be able to handle that easily...

I was just wondering about it cause ebay had 2 05 engines for $1200 each. They are complete engines too. How much power would you guess a 5.4l 2V would put out with full bolt ons, stage 2 cams, foged internals, and a tune? I am possibly looking into this swap, but would most likely build it all motor.

if you look back thru the thread, i posted the links to where i had scanned the magazines articles online to show the one they did. if you can't find it, pm me and i'll send it to you.

but i'd expect to see around 280hp 350tq at the wheels from the swap they did.
i'm going for as close to 400rwhp as possible using every trick in the book...

I'm looking for 325rwhp and 375-425tq with 10:1 compression, mild cams and ported heads. There's no limit to how much power you can make but it depends a lot on how you build it at a very specific level. Figure that you'll make around 300rwhp and 350tq... enough to see mid to low 12's on premium gas if you can plant the power. More if you go above 9.4:1 compression.

00blkstanggt... if you want, you can pop over to my place in Livermore over a weekend and I'll show you what I have and what it costs. Building the longblock will cost around 5K+ with assembly. Add another 1500 for install and tune.

I'll have to look into doing that sometime r3dn3ck. I'm still not 100% though if I will be doing this build or not. I might stick with the 4.6 for awhile. I'll just have to wait and see how money goes.

You'll probably end up using many of the same local businesses unless you plan on buying a built shortblock. Done right it's about 6K to do a built 5.4. It's 2K for the assembly of the longblock. If big purchases are an issue.. stay 4.6. I've got a decent 4k mile block you can have for the cost of getting it out of my garage. I bought the motor for the tranny and heads so now I just have a shortblock.

but do the navi injectors do as the ford with the colors on them? ford 19lbs are orange and 24 are blue. ford black are 55lbs i think.

the ones in the pic are off a navi motor but the guy doesn't know what these are that were on it when he bought it.

I never payed much attention to the color of the tops. Ford puts injectors in according to bhp rating of the engine so I always assumed they'd have kinda random colors. However.... IIRC, 4v skinny injectors in all black are 24's like on cobras. Search ebay for a set of mach1 injectors. That'll tell us.

Confirmed. Those are cobra 24's (if they come from a navi). Enjoy.

what year cobra? In any case, there were some blue green 24's with thick bodies, and skinny blues were 39's on the 03/04. I checked the parts list for 00' navigators and they should be using 24's. Best way to check is to verify the part number and check the bosch site... or feed it 40psi fuel and see what it can pump in a minute and multiply by 60.

just found out that I've got 95hrs of vacation time that's going to be cashed in in a week or so when my company's sale is finalized. That's well over 3K in cash freed up for my assembly and install. W00t.

I'm hoping to be done before christmas. My original build plan didn't include a forged bottom end or ported heads or any of that stuff so I'm over a year behind schedule but the new motor should be well worth it.

I'll be testing the stock PI intake, HPS 4.6 Hardball'R and the PP typhoon intake on it right after the install so we should see what you can expect from each of them. I just have to find a better tuner in my area to tinker with the tunes.

normally I go to apex but I don't know who's doing the tuning anymore and the only people I used to trust there to do it have left. If your mods are basic they can do a good job but if you have more extensive mods than just bolt ons we need to find someone that knows what they're doing. I may have to drive to LA to have Shawn Ellis at SoCal Diablo do it. Nothing like driving for 5 hours for a tune up.

Where are they located? I go down south every so often to visit friends. I use to live in Orange County so I know my way around quite a bit.

I just got off the horn with MMR. They're here in california (other side of the state but that's cool) and they'll slap a motor together for like 900 (long block) with all customer supplied parts. The closest quote I got so far locally is 2000 so I think I'm going to have MMR put it together for me.

You've all been informed. They're supposed to be really good so use em.
