Default Flowmasters

Ok so origionally I was giong to go with MAC..but my buddy with a 6 called me up today and said he was selling his flowmasters for 100 bucks..

I plan on buying them.

Unfortunately, they aren't bolt on..apparently.. theres welding involved..is this something that is somewhat normal? Or am I going to get screwed here..

you'll get a better seal if its welded in, and you can still always cut it off later.
Do you have duals already, or are you buying just one of them?

As far as fit and finish goes they make the best exhaust period. But I personally like spintech prostreets the most but will probably end up going with Flowtech Raptors on mine in a couple weeks. $40 for two brand new on ebay with free shipping LOL. I wonder how they'll sound?

Well its a full exhaust.. for 100 bucks..and hes installing for me.. but looking around i figured a full exhaust would be costing me much more.. so i jumped on it..haven't bought them yet, because I don't know if i like the idea of having to weld on my frame..

I'm not trying to spend a massive amount of money is all..

Not sure what type of flows, i'll find out tommorow. Its basically riding on whether or not his boss lets us t ake the cars over to the shop or not so we can use the welder..

I'm an impatient person, I've heard his flowmasters and they don't sound bad, they kinda drown out at high rpms though.. I'll found out the chambers ect. I beleive they are X pipes though..

there is no reason to weld exhaust to your frame

having an exhaust custom welded is the way to go... you might as well do headers at the same time...

then you have countless possibilties of where the exhaust goes, and how it sounds, etc

Don't do headers there is no point untill you're pushing 300+. And no he didn't mean for you to weld the headers.

Well, for the most part, as far as my mods ect goes i'm going with what teal beast has told me..

But the first thing im doing is exhaust. I need to make sure it'll pass the ca emissions test or w/e and thats 95 decibles.. this will pass smog, i beleive, but i'm honestly getting somewhat lost about welding my own custom exhaust, ect.

If I don't get the flows, I will probably go back to the origional idea, of getting MACs, or now, Bassani, since two people have just mentioned how good they are.

Even if I go with the flowmasters, and I don't like them, its not the end of the world, I can always get a new exhaust system, and break the welds..

Buy a set of muffs...

go to the exhaust guy... tell him that you may want to change out muffs in the future...

He can use clamps... He will have to use clamps in case the exhaust ever needs to come off... He will weld AND use clamps...

The only thing he'll weld is the piping, no frame etc

Well I think I'm getting mufflers with it, like I'm getting everything from uh.. his headers down, basically because hes throwing on his stock exhaust and trading his car into ford monday, as a down on a cobra or something..

But yea, I guess what I need to do is call a muffler shop and find out how long and how much it'll cost for them to put on my exhaust.

Thanks alot ;p

Bassani is definately the way to go.
I had Bassani exhaust on my 89 and 92 mustangs and it was by far better than flowmaster.

im workin on bassani for my 01 now.

Ok so my buddy called me back and everything ..heres whats happening

Its a 2 chamber exhaust

Apparently, its not welding on the frame, theres uh.. hangers or something already underneath my car.. but they bounce around too much or something..so what hes doing is taking those off, and tacking the exhaust on there.

I am getting the cats with it, and the mufflers with it as well.

Now..remember..the biggest reason why I'm getting these Flows is for the fact that..well..its 100 bucks. Plus hes installing it for me.

So basically, I'm saving a few hundred dollars, and some wrench work..

The few hundred bucks can go to my gears/pausi

I've heard his car.. it has a nice deep sound to it, i mean, no its not the best, and its not going to be out someone like Magnaflow or Bassani or Borla or MAC.. but..I am content with the sound coming out..

Also, the pipes he has I won't have to buy a GT bumper yet, because it cuts off or whatever.. so thats more cash I'm saving..

I know eventually I'm going to end up buying a new exhaust system, but I figured, why not for a 100 bucks, and then I can start on some bigger things. =p
