Slappy Interior Overhaul, Stage 2
Well, stage 2 is complete.... well.. it has been for about a month now. <Just havent gotten around to showing it.
Stage 1 was the door panels, and console bezel. The doors were origionally all the same color of tan except for the silver parts which were a brown. I hated that scheme. The console bezel was silver and grey, i painted it to match the control bezels on the doors.
Stage 2 brings the black around to the back and around the rear seat, This was quite a pain in the *** to do, but it was well worth it. I also painted the defroster vents for the side windows.
Stage 3 is going to be the hardest, Pretty much all the brown will be painted black while the tan will remain tan, which is pretty much just the top of the dask and where it swoops down around the boot. This will most likely involve ripping out the entire front dash. Yeah, That is gonna suck.
Im still deciding if im going to do anything with the center part between the seats.
Any feedback/suggestions are welcome.
I used duplicolor Truck&SUV for the silver, and i used duplicolor vinyl and dash for all the black.
Other touches include the Billit E-brake cover, Steeda light ****, Billit turn signal cover, aluminum gauge cover, 9mm door lock pins, and a couple other small things i cant think of off the top of my head.
So far im happy with the appearance.

Well, everything was already tan, i wanted to bring some black and silver in the car since those are the primary colors on the outside. Just work the flow of it into the car.
There is that line that goes from the back seat, across the doors, over the dash that dips down, comes back up and back across the car, i figured that would be a good line to work with cause it has such flow. Im pretty happy with how it is turning out.

Looks good. Couple questions or suggestions as I just painted all my interior trim pieces. The long piece of plastic that is on top of the dash, the bezel to the defroster for the front window, maybe paint that silver when you paint the dash black, looks great IMO. Also, maybe paint the little trim pieces around the driver and passenger A/C vents? And also the plastic door handle bezels? Maybe a black or silver, I would say silver because your other trims are silver, but I think black would look awesome with the tan's surrounding it.

My entire interior was black, i mean everything. I'm done with painting, the rest is gonna be billet pieces. Another question when you paint the brown black, what are you doing with the little brown that is on your steering wheel?

I dunno, Duplicolor makes a vinyl leather and upholster paint, that is what i have been using for the black. I might try to paint the brown part black as well. Im also thinking of getting black carpet put in. As for the seats, they will stay tan, but im thinking of painting the middle black... it is kind of hard to explain, you have all seen 2 tone seats right? with the middle back and middle bottom a different color from the outer parts?,.... yeah iof that makes any sence. holdon, ill try to make a pic for it.
here, maybe thes epics will help.
The only thing im worried about is the front seats get plenty of use, thiis paint is supposed to work on leather, but im still kinda nervous that it wont work too well. I think it would look sweet though

i was planning on doing the exact thing you are doing but now im going a different direction with it. i say go ahead and dye your seats the way you are talking about doing it. i just dyed my seats with the same stuff and its holding up. just make sure you really clean your seats, it's not hard. only thing id suggest is maybe doing it the other way around with black on the outsides and leave the inserts tan. it would look hot in your car.
also, putting new carpet in your car is easy. i just finished putting new carpet in mine.

Any suggestions on the best way to go about it? im comfortable with doing door panels, but i havent tried leather yet.
I have tomorrow off, i might give it a shot.

Yeah, tell ya what, when i first started and had the door panels removed and everything taped up and ready to go, i stood there for about 15 minuits with the paint in hand just wondering weather or not i was making a big mistake. <grin>
Now im hooked and cant wait to finish, the problem is time and weather. its been way too cold latley to do anything more.

ahh finally stage two, I've been waiting to see this. It looks good, I see you saved the hard part for last (the dash) good luck with that. I hope you don't have any rattles after all is sed and done.

Tell ya what, I saw a couple pics of floppy's work and all i can say is DAMN, that is gonna be HOT. Just wait he finishes and puts up some pics!
I think i might have to come up with a STAGE 4.
Maybe eliminate ALL of the Tan and introduce some Electric Blue. to go with the black and silver.

Slappy, I don't know what you think, but maybe just check into getting the seats with new leather put on them, and then it will look much better, feel better, and plus it'll be new. I'm going to do that with my seats and do some white/black scheme and then where the pony is sewn in the headrest, I'm gonna get "White Thunder." Just a suggestion, I dont know how much that would cost though.

hey slappy, and anyone else for that matter, i was wonderin what color would look good for this interior piece??? the one that goes around the center ac vents all the way down the radio to the bezel??? i dont want it to stand out TOOO much....

The black looks too shiny to me. Maybe its the glare from some light or the camera but I would prefer more of a satin finsih.
But I am not sure about brown, black, and silver. You have alot of work ahead and good luck to ya but that color combo is definatly odd.

i wanna paint my interior black n silver but im scared............has anyone had the paint in there car for years cause if it started chipping on me down the road i would go crazy and have 2 buy all new interior......... i just hate the dark grey i have but i think it would look dumb with black and silver and then dark grey carpet and seats

if you prep it right you wont have any trouble with chipping. make sure you clean all the parts very good. changing the carpet is easy too. you can get basic factory colors from 50resto.com i think but if you want to try some colors that werent offered from the factory, go to stockinteriors.com.
i saw a white stang on modular depot with white carpet and an otherwise black interior and it looked pretty good imo.
also, to the person that said it looked glossy, it doesnt look that glossy in person (at least mine doesnt).

Yea, I 100% agree with slappy, it's in the prepping. Make sure you use an alcohol to clean. I didn't use a clear coat on any of mine, but I'm thinking of going back and clear coating the trim pieces on the door (where the window switches are) and also the door handle buzzels, because these could get a lot of scratching or abuse. BTW I used Duplicolor Vinyl spray paint for mine
