Ipod Connection... Please help!
Trying to figure out if there is any way to connect and iPod nano to a factory (non shaker) system on an '05 Mustang... This is for my fiance's sixxer. She has door/deck speakers and a sub along with an amp, but still using the stock Radio/CD player.
Is there any way to do this other than an FM transmitter?
She wants an iPod nano for Christmas to use in her car and I'm trying to figure out if there is any way to do this.
THANKS!!!

Hers doesn't have one in the front, if it does have one it's in the back and I haven't pulled it out to find out.
'06+ did have aux. inputs in the front though.
Correction: The '06+ had the aux connection in the center console.

Well, I think I answered my own question..
Yes, you can do it, but it's not cheap.

And.. if you want control of the iPod through the stereo..... uggh.

the first link you posted is what i did with my subaru...I was going to suggest it but I knew it was fairly expensive route. I had a 6 disc changer so i really didnt mind having to run a blank CD for it to work.

They sell iPod to Stereo cables that plug into your cigarette lighter. Go to Walmart and you will see a ton. They are around $50-60. If you want to buy the things you posted, you might as well just buy a new head unit for the same price, that has USB and iPod control.

I just can't decide if all of this would be worth it, especially considering that her daily commute is all of 15-20 minutes. Guess I'll just have to think about it.

yeah getting a new head unit with an AUX input would be your best bang for your buck.

The main reason why she doesn't want a new CD player is because of the double din design in the Mustangs.. It looks kind of stupid to have a single din CD player and a pocket, especially in the '05+..
If I could afford it I would get her something like this, but I just can't afford to do it right now especially if I buy her the iPod too.. http://signature.crutchfield.com/s_1...T.html?tp=5684 Planning on doing something similar to this in My 'Stang soon because I don't care about having a DVD player.

I've already bought her almost 20 ******* DVD's that she wanted for Christmas this year (thank you Amazon.com) so I'm working with a limited budget at this point.. $200 is about my maximum limit on this iPod deal, give or take a bit depending on whether I get her an 8 or a 16GB iPod..
Thank you!
Thank you!

you might be able to connect an aux input to the back of the head unit. mine is an aftermarket head unit(in a 95, not an 05) but it's wired directly into the glove box(no visible cords unless you open the glove box) and there is your ipod with the charger cable in it too. you control the ipod thru the headunit. wasnt that hefty priced.

Just get her the iPod now and tell her she will have to wait to be able to play it in the car. Or tell her if she wants to play it in the car, then she can cough up the money for a new head unit or whatever else has been suggested.

I have been looking at the head units too lately since all the sales flyers floating around the house with the holiday season at hand. And they look pretty kewl with being able to plug a USB thumb drive into the front of them to play your mp3 and such!
Thats what I miss is having the ability to play mp3's in my car, since I had a JVC 12disc MP3 changer that was in the trunk, that was totalled in the previous car wreck!

No, there isn't an auxiliary input in the '05 Mustangs. No cassette player, either.
A while back ago, I was looking for the exact same thing for my Mustang, but I couldn't justify spending the money on it. Too expensive. I just carry some of my CD's with me. Same damn difference, except much, much heavier than my iPod. With a 6 disc changer, I don't really need to take time to change CD's as long as I load them before I ride.
Kind of a pointless thing to get for the car, in my opinion. So I gave up on it. However, if Evan finds something affordable that actually works, I might reconsider.

This seems to be the best bang for the buck.. It is a direct hookup, the only real downside is the fact that it doesn't charge the unit and you can't use the controlls on the head unit, but it is less than half the cost of the unit that does...
They have some good looking FM modulators now, but they require too much work.. I'd rather spend $30 more on the PAC unit that basically is just plug and play.

IMO with the work that she has already done to the sound system of the car you might as well suggest an aftermarket head-unit with iPod capability. It'll make the system even better, have greater versatility and work like a charm. I recently bought an Alpine CDA-9886 and my iPod is neatly hidden in the glove box and I retained full iPod control through the stereo itself; greatest thing since sliced bread.

In most cases I would agree, but I know that she doesn't want a different head unit so that just won't work...
