Finally doing something to the sound system.

Well I bought 01FR500's subs and amp from him a couple of weeks ago, thanks again man.
Attachment 20274

So with that I started my leap into stereo work. The subs are 2 10" Rockford Fosgate P2s and the amp is a RF P4002. Started off by repainting the circular covers for the subs they were scuffed in some places, and also carpeted the sub enclosures.

So now it looks like..

Took the 460 sound board out because I'm going to make some U brackets to hold the amp underneath it so I can retain my trunkspace

The front of the amp will face towards the front of the car and the wiring will follow the same route as the mach 460 amps, so everything will be hidden from view and the amp can be accessed by folding down the rear seats.
So that's tomorrow's plan. Hopefully I can get that sound board back in so I can listen to music on more than just my 2 front tweeters.

And going to order this headunit sometime next week, hopefully

And the 5x7s are going to be replaced in early Feb by some Infinity Kappa's

Nicely done, I'm jealous, but it's going to look bad ass. I wouldn't want to live next to you while you're blasting your music and I'm trying to sleep. ;) Good work man, come do mine now. :D

98mustangv6 01-10-2009 04:58 AM

looks good man! yeah thats one of the first things i did i replaced my tape/radio player that came stock with a pioneer deck and replaced all the speakers in my car with some brand new pioneer ones. it sounds so much better and probably will get an amp and subs this summer. :D

08mustang_gt 01-10-2009 08:50 AM

Nice job bro. Rockford Fosgate's are sick, especially the P2's. You couldn't have picked a better set-up. Personally I'd stay away from Infiniti components. I've never liked them and honestly they're like the cheap generic brand. Pioneer's are the best bang for your buck IMO. I've always had pioneer components and loved them.

But it's still sick either way. I especially like the stealth set-up you've got going on. I hate the people who throw the subs in a generic box and shove it in their trunk. It looks like s***.

I love it.:D

PColav6 01-10-2009 09:07 AM

Haha, thanks guys. I've heard good things about Inifinity and have liked the ones I've heard, the kappas seem to be really good with mid-high range, detailed sound. They're not so good on bass but now that I have subwoofers that doesn't matter.

BUT, the damn headunit I was going to buy got discontinued yesterday!

It got replaced with this thing
https://akamaipix.crutchfield.com/pr...00UB-f_mt.jpeg
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_130P510...B.html?tp=5684

It LOOKS cool, I'd probably get it if the damn USB and aux ports weren't on the front, that's kind of ghetto for them to do that. So now I have to spring another $60 and buy the step up from the model I wanted.

Which means this is going to take more time. Fuck. :(

01FR500 01-10-2009 09:45 AM

Man thats awesome! I'm glad to see thoes things put to work like they should be. Good idea covering them with carpet to blend in with the trunk, not like that black paint would have matched anyway. Happy to see everything going together for you. Gona look good in the end, and be a bit different with the molded enclosures.

PColav6 01-10-2009 10:06 AM

Haha, thanks man. I was going to spray them charcoal gray first but then thought that carpeting them would be a much better route. It was much easier to do than I thought.

SeanStang 01-10-2009 10:57 AM

Pretty sweet setup dude! I like those sub enclosures.

Amp mounts are done! Me and my dad welded the L brackets and fitted them so the amp would parallel to the trunk floor. Tomorrow I gotta shave down the excess weld, cut off the extra metal and paint them. Then the soundboard's going back in the car...then I just got to save for the headunit.

Getting there!

mustangvsix 01-10-2009 10:22 PM

nice man, seems like this project is coming along nicely!

01 RED GT 01-10-2009 11:13 PM

looks tight man, and deffinitely go infinity on the speakers, pioneer makes good head units but infinity kicks pioneers ass on subs and speakers

01FR500 01-11-2009 01:21 AM

Thats going to look better than having that big amp rack in the middle of the trunk too. Great work.

PColav6 01-11-2009 08:22 AM

Thanks man, I never really planned to use your amp rack, but I didn't want to say that I don't want it and leave you with something you couldn't use/sell..lol

01FR500 01-11-2009 08:39 AM

That wouldn't have bothered me, I would have been able to cut you a little better deal since shipping would be alot less. I understand not using it though. It's nice the have the enclosures that don't take up alot of space, but then that big square rack in the middle negates all that.

lazyhomie1908 01-11-2009 10:53 AM

How did you go getting those sub enclosures custom made or bought them somewhere? I might be interested in doing something like that to my stang.

PColav6 01-11-2009 12:03 PM

I don't know, I think 01FR500 made them himself.

Right now I'm waiting on the paint to dry..then I'll put everything back in the car.

I made them. I just read about how to fiberglass over the internet and did'em. It's pretty easy, but time consuming. All the fiberglass material you need can be bought at Wal-mart Lowes or Home Depot. If you want some fiberglass enclosures I'd recommend doing them yourself as it will save you tons of money. A local shop said they would have charged me $600 for the stuff I made.

And it's all done. The amp hangs a tad lower than I wanted, but there's enough space between it and the bottom of the soundboard so that hot air can easily escape. I can still put luggage around it and use the floor of my trunk.

Satisfied. :D

Though I'll probably take off the heat shield that covers the ports for all of the wires, so it'll be easier to have them go straight up and out of sight.

krenogin 01-11-2009 04:50 PM

that is totally a very quality job.. my car used to be a driving N rigged mess! but i fixed it all... its not as clean and cool like you got all ur work.

Any tips or instructions for someone who wants to do something like what you did :D

jon2325 01-12-2009 02:40 PM

looks good man.. idk if you'll have the same problem but on mine i had to tuck the wire that your trunk monkey is hanging on because when i'd be goin down the road listening to music the truck would pop open..

01FR500 01-12-2009 06:02 PM

System looks great Kevin.

The tutorial I made a long time ago. http://www.gotstang.com/howtos.php?h...=7&step=1#jump

I don't have any of the tutorial websites anymore but you could probably google it. There is alot of info on the internet, that's the whole way I learned other than actually doing it. Have a well ventilated area, wear gloves and old clothes/shoes, have plenty of supplies (resin, fiberglass mat and cloth, brushes, cups measured out to the amount of resin you want to work with, etc), have a plan for what you want to do.

sonorSTANG6 01-14-2009 11:05 AM

wow, this project is sick! nice work man. sick setup. I have 2 10" MTX subs in my car, they do sound amazing. Goodluck!

Steeda97 01-14-2009 11:20 AM

How hard was the trunk monkey install?

:punk:

PColav6 01-14-2009 11:27 AM

All I had to do was throw a banana in the trunk.

PColav6 01-18-2009 10:05 AM

Ordered the head unit and wiring kit, got the head unit for $50 off. Shipped out today, should be here this week!
