Routed the little bastard RCA cable today

From the amp it goes straight up (will be secured once the rest of the wiring is in), through a hole by the rear head rest, then behind the plastic panel where the rear seat belt is. Then it goes straight under the carpet under the door sill , behind the passenger kick panel and pops out at the end of the carpet. Have about 5 feet of excess so I twist-tied it up and hid it behind the carpet while waiting for the HU and stuff.

It's lookin' good Peeeeeecola! All that free air around the amp should keep it nice and cool, probably will perform better that way. Looks like a nice, clean install, I'm sure it'll pound pretty good when you get it done. :)

Thanks WN :beerchug:

Crutchfield order came in this morning, now I have everything needed to finish it up! Not bad for $244

The face of the head unit matches my black chrome pony nicely :D
The only problem is I can't tell what color half of the wires are.

If thats a high wattage system u'll be adding a cap like i did.. It gets aggervating when u listen to music and ur lights dim down.. also i have a voltage meter to check my volts as i play music... It jumps all over the place.

PColav6 01-20-2009 02:55 PM

I'm getting a yellow top battery to help with that, the subwoofers are only 250 watts RMS

WNRacing 01-20-2009 05:21 PM

Caps really don't do much of anything, at least not on a small system. All that they do is pull extra current and keep some in reserve for the times when the amp really pulls more current. If anything, Caps have actually been shown to be bad for your car, or the alternator to be more precise.

Pcola, be careful and check your voltage at the battery to make sure it doesn't jump around too much, wouldn't want you to blow a ballast on your HID's since apparently power surge is the primary reason for damage on these things.

krenogin 01-20-2009 07:41 PM

youve got me thinking now.. i cant remember if my alternator went out before i did it or not.. But i keep an eye on my voltage.. it seems to be higher on cold days.. whereas warmer days it drops.. voltages will fluctuate. i have two 100w rms subs,, But i have a PERFECT box that brings the guts out of them speakers.. it amazes ppl for what they are.. BUT it can get my voltmeter to kick like crazy. BUT if i wire them without bridging or anything its fine,, but the sounds not as good. normal it never drops below 13.9 volts.. BUT with bridge it can sometimes drop to high 12's. my old sound system would drop me to 10's and sometimes stall my engine.

SeanStang 01-20-2009 09:40 PM

Wellll.... is it all in yet??

PColav6 01-20-2009 10:14 PM

No, stopped at 9 because it was 35 degrees and I had HW to do. But the amp and sub are all wired up, got the wiring lead to the dash. Gotta splice the wires tomorrow and hook up the HU.

PColav6 01-21-2009 07:23 PM

Electrical work is such a pain fuuuuuuu. It's almost done, everything is hooked up, all of the speakers/subs/amp are working so that's a good sign. The tweeters/5x7s were s a little quiet though, (almost full volume on radio and it wasn't "loud"), I don't know if the HU has some kind of settings for the speakers or what but I'll have to check that. Just have to get the holy hell mess of wiring sitting behind the head unit out of the way so I can push it back into place, and then figure out how the hell the DIN pocket is supposed to mount and stay in place, since it doesn't want to do that.

krenogin 01-21-2009 07:35 PM

man,, all i do is have my bass turned down on my door speakers n stuff,, but my HU has a amp out for front and rear and for subs.. SO i got 6 RCA jacks in mine.. I run the sub out.. to my amp and run my speakers.. and the sub makes up for the bass loss on the tweeters so i crank it loud without distortion.. ive went deaf from stock speakers.

PColav6 01-21-2009 07:56 PM

Yeah, I have the speakers and the subs on all of the amp-outs on the back of the HU.

And this thing
https://akamaipix.crutchfield.com/pr...0305613-fp.jpg

doesn't do shit. It slides back into the dash where the head unit won't even reach. No way to keep it secured..

krenogin 01-21-2009 08:36 PM

ohh.. i did all my HU stuff with a walmart schoche kit,, and wiring kit from walmart too. but the amp stuff came from ebay. like 00 gauge wire.. which i cant use now.. my old sistem took caps and amp meters on every line,, it was BAD A,, but i wont touch it now.. its too damaging. especially to my ears.. it hit 140DB. flex's my windows. but im down to a little set.. i want quality..

PColav6 01-22-2009 07:59 AM

Okay everything's installed finally, damn. Din pocket is pretty loose feeling though so I'm going to get something to line the bottom of it with so it's sturdier. The amps pop like crazy on startup so I guess I need to get a voltage regulator eh? Annd the car won't start ..

Gonna have to describe th e"pop" for me to have any idea really..

PColav6 01-22-2009 10:13 AM

Turn key, head unit comes on then there's a pitched 'popping' sound from the speakers that happens just for a split second. Then the audio comes on. I google'd and some people say that's because the factory 5v amps are receiving too much power from the HU which sends out 12 volts, causing the pop. And they said this is needed to eliminate that
http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...ductId=2062599

But, after looking at that. I have no idea how that is supposed to attach to anything, since the factory amps and speakers are connected through RCA jacks..

PColav6 01-22-2009 03:58 PM

Kay replaced the battery so I can use the car now. Subs sound amazing, even at low gain they hit really hard and loud inside the car, but you can barely hear it outside the car. Perfect bass. BUT, the 5x7s and tweeters seem extremely quiet (volume 40/50) and they are at what the Mach headunit would be at half volume. So I gotta figure out what's up with that. Still need to read the HU manual and go through and adjust everything

krenogin 01-22-2009 04:22 PM

find how to turn ur subs down.. i have mine on +12DB on the amp, and -10 on my stereo.. SO its balanced good, and when i need rap i turn the subs up! its weird that ur tweets are weak.

I'm gonna go ahead and recommend the pioneer deh-6000UB to anyone who wants a single din unit, it looks great (not flashy or tacky at all), blends in well and is really clean.

SeanStang 01-23-2009 03:34 PM

I like it, nice clean headunit.
