Default Making the grille pony appear "black chrome" ?

I really want to do this to my pony, I found some black chrome airbrush type paint but it's ridiculously priced @ $80 for 1/2 pint..so I started to think about spray tint.

I haven't used spray tint before but do you think a few shades of it on the emblem would blacken it? Or would it make look brown or something. I might test this out on my stock grille pony..

I don't know about airbrushing it to be like that. From what I've heard and read, that's one of the 45th anniversary pony's. Should be able to buy them online about now...

Yeah the 010 mustangs will have black chrome emblems, but I don't think you'll be able to buy those until the cars are actually being sold. Plus, I want to have this done before those are around...so I can be semi unique for atleast a few months. haha

plus is you dont like it you can jsut take it off with some paint thinner or something.

I'm sure you could just had an airbrush company do it for you. Those little t-shirt airbrushers at the mall could probably even hook you up.

T shirt airbrushers in the mall..what kind of hippy mall do you have? lol

If the spray tint doesn't work I'll look around, but I haven't seen a black-chrome appearance from airbrush before.

I would just get a small can of model paint in gloss black, stay about a foot away and apply a couple of really light coats. I see no reason why that wouldn't work..

look around you can probably find a 1 or 2oz bottle for a helluvalot less.

this might do it for ya

or..

http://www.eastwoodco.com/shopping/p...chrome%2Cpaint

yer not gonna really find anything that will be just like black chrome though, except for getting it dipped in black chrome.

What the hell is galaxy gray? Lol

They have paint that looks just like chrome, but it's ******* expensive

Remember, I don't want it to look gray or black, or metallic...going for something like this

I guess it's like a super-reflective gray with a black pearl look to it..ahah

Little update, got the VHT in today, just 1 test coat on my stock grille..it looks BADASS. Though upclose you can see dark little specks from the spray, but it's only the first coat and I plan to clearcoat it afterwards wet sand it a tad. I'll post pics as I progress

Arrg! Well as I thought, it's hard to keep it looking bright when keeping the coat even. I did the pony off my mach grille and it's all evenly covered and looks well done, but it's dark. Still not black but more like a charcoal gray. Looks alot better than just a black pony, though. The stock one looks more black-chromish but the coat isn't consistent so you can see specks. Gonna clearcoat the mach one tomorrow and see if that brightens it up a tad, then I'll post pics. Might end up rubbing some thinner on it and doing it again. hehe.

In any case, Dark or light it looks pretty good to me, since I have all of this black **** on my car. I'm going to do it to the silver parts of my fender emblems as well.

My brother has the camera at his apartment

**** you steeda, your wheels SUCK. lol

Got some pics

Top (darker)
Bottom (more chromish, but less consistent and speckled)
Note that the top pony does not have any clearcoat yet, the bottom has 2 coats.
EDIT: got my parent's camera and got some better pics, one of them is in the sun, one shade, and one with the flash.

IMO not good enough pics to 100% decide. But from what I could tell, the top horse in your first pic looked good. The other one (top horse second pic) looks too dark.

The horses are the same in every pic, just the lighting conditions are different.

Alright bottom one it is.

I'm going to order another pony and spray that one lightly, so I can have a dark and light one to compare..final products.
