thanks I'm looking to get either some alpine 6x8 or some infinitie. I allready changed the door ones now I wanna change the back ones. All ready got two 12 inch mtf jackhammers in the trunk. I'm going to go ahead and put the dynomats in too.

its almost worthless to put speakers in your rear deck if you have 2 12's in the trunk. you won't hear them unless there is some serious power driving them (and your front stage as well).
my next serious audio system will definitely be component.
food for thought.

yeah dude above me is right. i had 2 tens in the back of my grand am before my mustang and i didntr evenm have speakers in the back. sounds good without them.i had 2 10 MA Audio subs. only 100Watts each and they still bumped. 250rms each. i got so sick of them, i made m,y car die of them. if you do put subs in your car make sure when you hook up the amp to the battery that the wire ciming from the battery is all taped up or there will be an arch of electoricty ccoming from the batter to the body of the car. sorry for the spelling im quit drunk. yeah i didnt know about the arch going from the battery to the body of my grand am so my starter died and i was too cheap to get it fixed so i boaght a mustang. best buy ever

lol, yeah, the wire needs to be completely shielded and it shouldn't be bare *anywhere*. if it touches a piece of the metal on the car it will arc and things wont be pretty for your electrical system. also need to make sure there is a proper ground from the amp to somewhere on the body/frame of the car. I sanded all the paint off down to the metal around a bolt in the trunk and attached an O ring connector to it for the ground cable.
as for the rear sound stage, i had 2 10" Type R's in the back of my mustang with 500w/ea. it was just far too loud for rear speakers to even matter. i had the rear speakers in there at first and i ended up just taking them out because they couldn't be heard.

Route the positive wire from the battery thru one of the factory rubber plugs in the firewall. Also, I am still a fan of rear speakers for "rear fill". You want a front soundstage, but also a little rear fill to comliment it. This is what I am going to do: I just bought 2 pairs of MB Quart 6x8 component sets from Woofersetc.com. The rears will have the tweeters mounted on the woofer like a standard coaxial speaker. Up front, I am going to install the woofers only in the doors and the tweeters on the dash. I have 2-10inch kicker solobaric L7's for subs. And 2 oldschool orion HCCA amps(dont make them like these anymore). My install will probably begin next weekend. If anyone needs advice just ask...I've been doing this as a hobby since 1990.

all my wires and stuff are all caverd up, no arching will happen, I didnt do my setup perfessionals did it. And as long as u have the subs at a decent amont of power and not over doing it, u can still here the rear speakers. I just want to change them since I changed my door speakers.
Does anyone no how many watts are in the factory speakers that come in an 01 stang

They have to be put in facing up. 12s CAN fit in our trunks.
If you're putting 12s in, then invest a little more money and go with a component system, buy the extra amp, have the tweeters up front..
Right now I'm on 3 JL 10s, full Alpine R component system, 2 performance technique amps..I can crank it up and the bass doesn't overpower the highs and mids.
Before I had the components, it didn't matter what speakers you put in..they just sound like ****.
