Headlight tint laws
Hey. I live in NY and i bought the blacked-out tail and head light covers. I was pulled over and told that I had to take off the tail light covers. However, I was under the impression that they were not illegal. Does anyone happen to know the laws about light covers in NY, particularly in Nassau county? THanks in advance.

if you got the ones that are real dark that just cover the light I would be surprised if they were legal in any state. Your talking about the removable ones right? those are meant for show which is why they are easy to take off. Technically shouldn't be driving with them on

I have some blackout/tinted headlights cover for mine and, as far as driving at night with them. They are a hazard. Can't see sh*t. Plus they change shape as the temps vary. Also saw a stang a while back with blacked out tailights. When he hit his brakes it was barely noticeable in the daylight. Granny will have a hard time seeing him slow down. Then get surprised and slam the gas instead of the brake. Bam.

I have a set of headlights with the 50% tint and have never been bothered by the cops about it, or my 50% tint on the tailights. But visibility was reduced alot with the tinted headlights and I have been using my untinted headlights for the winter. I was rearended in my v6 mustang when I had tailight tint and it didn't even become a factor.

Yeah I live in Merrick too. I got pulled over on sunrise highway and the cop didn't ticket me but he kept me there for about a half hour. Thanks for the info. I sold them anyway so it doesn't matter anymore, but thanks.

this is about the headlight tint not the tail lights

well people were chiming in aabout tailights too. but i doubt the cops here would say sh*t about headlight tint. people here have 5% tint and they dont give a sh*t.

I have blacked out taillights and foglights. I live in Florida and I know it's illegal, but I don't care. If they pull me over I'll just accept the ticket and go on my merry way.
So far, I've been lucky enough to get away with my tint.
