What wax to use?
My parents are getting me a 2006 Mustang, either dark blue, black, or torch fire. I don't know what color to get and when I do what is the best wax to use to make it really shine. Thanks
|
whats your budget? if you can afford it, pinnacle souveran is really good. p21s is another boutique brand but less expensive.
|
I use gequires gold for my black mustang, but i lacks something in the sun. but looks really good under shop lights. when i run out of that i'm going to upgrade in wax. i want more shiny under the sun. becuase sry my car isn't inside the shop too much when i can use the lights.

A nice wax is nice, but most important is prep. Your finish needs to be flawless to have the best reflective shine and deep gloss. Machine polishing with a fine polish and finishing pad is really necessary here. Anways, I could go on forever about this.
Probably one of the best OTC wax is NXT Tech wax, but not my flavor. Check out Pinnacle Souveran ($80), Poorboy's Natty's Blue ($15), Pinnacle Series II, DP's MaxWax, Finish Kare's Pink Wax, Chemical guy's 50/50, XXX, and Pete's 53, etc. etc. http://autogeek.net/carnauba-wax.html |
I agree with Greg 100%. Pinnacle Souveran is on sale RIGHT NOW! for $70. And Pinnacle Sig. Series II is selling for $30. Natty's Blue is also great for darker colors.
I also dont use OTC waxes. Really the only OTC product I use is AA tire shine. |
My opinion
I have a 2006, black stang which I will be putting put on 35,000 miles per year. I use Klasse AIO because I want something that will stand up to the elements as is outside all day baking in the sun or soaking in the winter salt. From then on, I apply 3 coats of Klasse sealant every year. I have used this product for 10 years and is most durable for my application and you will be surprised at the deep shine after 2 sealant applications and gets better with more sealant applications. The price of the product is attractive too. Wife's car is black, 2 years old, has 2 original applications of AIO and has 4 coats of Klasse sealant. Her car too, still has deep shine and still standing up to the outside elements. Many of us have exterior preferences depending on how often you want to maintain or not maintain and yet have a nice deep shine. I prefer durability, deep shine, coupled with low maintenance. There you have it!

klasse is the shit as far as durability, and makes a great base for a wax

Klasse AIO is a great acrylic wax. Also, try some of this on your front windshield. It leaves about 5 months of protection and acts waayyyyy better than Rain-X.

how is me saying klasse is the shit and makes a great base for wax being hostile? are you really that old and out of touch with current lingo? I was trying to say that klasse is awesome and lasts forever, i think you're the only one that missed it. No hostility here, but make sure you got your glasses on before you surf the net.
As I read more boards and become familiar with others lingo, I will try and understand that person and why they must use foul words to be misinterpreted by this grandpa. No offense either. :) No advice |
I use the Poorboys EX-P and its the shit on cars with flake like silvers,MG,DSG etc.. this is a polish of course and i fallow it up with pure carnuba from Poorboys also.

I apparently was mistaken with your use of the English Language and context with how your message was put together. Sorry that I was not with it as come from old school and have much to learn how some young people use the English language today.

Poorboys EX-P is NOT a polish, it's is a sealant.
I plan on getting some Liquid Souveran for my light colors. |

Ditto on this, no correcting abilities. Can't think off the top of my head, but it may be called a polish by Poorboy's, as a lot of companies call their sealants polishes, (Duragloss and Zaino to name 2). Ex-P does work very well on light colors so I've heard.
I plan on getting some Liquid Souveran for my light colors. Did you see Sig Series II on sale for $20! |

I put some Liquid Souveran on my hood. It didnt have ANYTHING on it, no polish or wax. The paint felt so smooth and slick. Shined real nice too, obviously didnt correct anything though. Let dry and it comes off super easy.
Did you see Sig Series II on sale for $20! I just got back from CarQuest and finalllllly found DG OTC. I picked up about 5 products. |
Yeah, I saw your thread about that. Im going to stick to Liquid Souveran for customer cars and my car. Im selling my Mustang and my new car will be silver. Id like to try Max Wax on my new car too.

Get ZYMOL its the bomb
|
sorry i was backwords anyhow i am doing my poorboys polishing with EX-p sealant right now so far hood is done and soo are wheels and they look fantastic
|
Since the car is brand new, don't waste too much time with prep. There not not be much oxidation and such anyway. So, I would bother with a cleaner or anything with abrassives.
If you drive a lot, don't use something like P-21s. It is straight carnuba. While it is a great product, it is not very durable. IMO, seal your pain with something good. Either use Mother's #2, Maguires #2, Klasse, or Sonus sealer. THEN, hit is with any dam wax you like. Either use Maguires #3, Mother's #3, or P-21S as a topper. The super expensive waxes? They are not much better. My car was last done with Blue Coral polish/clay, sealer and wax and then topped with P-21S. If you saw it, I guarentee it is the nicest looking 8 year old black stang you have seen. AND, the shine will last for a VERY long time. Whatever you do, I HIGHLY recomend that each time you hand-wash it (and ONLY hand wash it) be sure to ONLY use micro-fiber rags, and use a product like Maguires Final Detail or Maguires Quick Wax each time. It takes 10 minutes and will ensure the car will stay amazing. Also, be sure your rags are clean and you dry it in the garage and don't let the water dry in the sun. |
Im going to have to disagree that the more expensive waxes arent much better.
|
There is a limit imo on expensive waxes. I will never buy anything more than $100 on wax unless a customer wishes to pay for a more expensive wax.
With that said, I mainly use a $15, $30, $30, $45, $18 wax, and they are all designed for certain colored paints, finishes, metallic, etc. |
Yeah, youve also have to consider ease of application and removal.
