If you drive a lot, don't use something like P-21s. It is straight carnuba. While it is a great product, it is not very durable. IMO, seal your pain with something good. Either use Mother's #2, Maguires #2, Klasse, or Sonus sealer. THEN, hit is with any dam wax you like. Either use Maguires #3, Mother's #3, or P-21S as a topper. The super expensive waxes? They are not much better. My car was last done with Blue Coral polish/clay, sealer and wax and then topped with P-21S. If you saw it, I guarentee it is the nicest looking 8 year old black stang you have seen. AND, the shine will last for a VERY long time. Whatever you do, I HIGHLY recomend that each time you hand-wash it (and ONLY hand wash it) be sure to ONLY use micro-fiber rags, and use a product like Maguires Final Detail or Maguires Quick Wax each time. It takes 10 minutes and will ensure the car will stay amazing. Also, be sure your rags are clean and you dry it in the garage and don't let the water dry in the sun. It may seem like a waste of money, but I throw everything into the garbage can after one use; foam applicators, white terrycloth towels that I use for the windows, tires and black plastic parts, small micro fibre towels, etc. The only things I save are my expensive large micro fibre towels, which get washed in the washer after one use, no soap or fabric softener used. But then again, I'm really anal, I bought my car 4 years ago new, has only 24000 miles on her, and has never seen the rain. |

It works very very well for MF washing. |
Just learned something, P21S wax has a lot of beeswax in it. Thats great for beading, but offers little protection and poor durability.

Even a new car has had exposure to airborne pollutants and rail dust, not to mention the abuse it gets from the "detailers" who wash and prep new cars for the dealership! Hand washing is a must. I use the 4 bucket method... 2 buckets for the paintwork, two for the tire and wheel asemblies. One bucket is for the wash solution and the other for rinsing the wash mitts. I use microfiber wash mitts and sheepskin wash mitts, and have a set for upper an lower body panels. I use my older wash mitts for the tires and wheels, along with soft brushes. I follow the natural airflow around the vehicle and always wash in a straight line. Drying is done with microfiber detailing towels. I then clay the paintwork a small area at a time, wiping down with a microfiber towel. I mask off any trim with 3M blue painter's tape I use a PorterCable PC7424 polisher to apply polish and wax as necessary. Removal is done by hand with microfiber towels. My present choice of last step product is either Meguiar's #26 Hi tech wax or Meguiar's NXT. I apply two thin layers using the PC to insure even coverage, and maintain the finish by removing pollen with a California Car Duster then using Meguiar's Final Inspection with microfiber towels. I pick a panel or two and wax it by hand after each wash.. that way, the car is always protected. My Mustang is a "toy", I have had it for a little over year (purchased May 1st, 2006) and only have 4600 miles on her. It stays in the "paddock" for the winter. |
