There are tradeoffs in both systems. In theory, a turbocharger is more efficient because it is using the "wasted" energy in the exhaust stream for its power source. On the other hand, a turbocharger causes some amount of back pressure in the exhaust system and tends to provide less boost until the engine is running at higher RPMs. Superchargers are easier to install but tend to be more expensive.
Ha, Cut copy paste... rocks...
Supercharger = nice whine
Turbo = blowoff valve "pssssh"
(I didn't cut copy or paste that one)

Where have you been looking at prices? Turbocharger kits cost way more then supercharger kits. Now if you have the know-how to make your own turbo kit then you can do it pretty cheap, but you need a place to cut and weld steel tubing.
Superchargers are more dependable and cost less
Turbo's have that cool factor to them and can provide a ton of power.

Prices aren't that far off from each other.
94/95 Paxton Novi 2000 = approx. $3500 8-10psi
2000's and up go even higher, approx $3700 (depending on systems you choose)
Vortech and Powerdyne isn't too far off from that price either.
94/95 Street Sleeper turbo system = approx. $3800 and that's 10psi.
It really all depends on shopping around for the best prices. Some companies will sell for more or less.
An added thing about superchargers vs turbochargers is with superchargers you get the instant response because it's constantly compressing intake air. The boost is small and gradually increases.
Turbochargers have to spool up. So usually you get a big hit of turbo boost at a certain RPM at WOT.
Basically, just do alot of research. There are good points and bad points to both, You're gonna have trade-offs.

Superchargers are more "certain application" and turbos arent, but they are in the sense of running all the new piping for it. If you did your own turbo kit, it would be a lot less expensive, if you bought the entire setup, its usually more than a supercharger.
