Default Cop didn't like my nitrous bottle! :(

I got pulled over last night by a cop with nothing else to do(go figure). I'm still breaking my clutch in, so I'm driving like my grandmother....anyways, he was behind me for a while...then the lights come on. I pull over and he walks up. He asks me if I am the owner of the car and if my name is on the registration...blah...blah. While I'm getting my registration out of the glove compartment, he spots my nitrous bottle, which I have mounted behind the passenger seat. He says, "What's in that tank behind the seat?". I say nitrous oxide sir. He then asked me if I raced the car, and I said no. He then asked why I have it. I didn't want to say to go fast on the street, so I said becuase I always wanted it. Then he was a dick and said if you dont race, why do you want it? I got crabby and said I WASNT RACING RIGHT NOW! He then dropped the issue...ran my plate # and whatever else they do to keep you there for 10 minutes. He came back and said I gave insuffient notice when I changed out of a turning lane. He didn't give me a ticket. Has anyone else ever been harrassed for any performance goodies on their cars? I was really pissed...but then glad I didnt get a ticket. I'm going to put a towel over my bottle from now on!

Lol that's pretty funny. I haven't ever been pulled over, but I might stick a bottle back there for ***** and giggles

Maybe next time you should go ahead and speed so he won't be asking any questions

You should have said yes, but only at the track.

Yup. I always tell the police that I race, but only at sanctioned events. They always see my camera mounts and numbers on the car. They've always either droped it right there or asked about what kind of racing I do and seem really interested. But your cop sounded a bit like an ***.

In Florida it doesn't matter that you have it as long as the bottle is closed.

So why don't you have it mounted in the trunk?

Probably doesn't have a remote opener so he can just reach back and open it.

yes i have but he was a cool sherriff. he got me for going 120 but decided not to throw the law at me and was intrested with my car so we just had a sweet convo while his k-9 barked like crazy. funny thing is he pulled me over twice after and he allowed me to leave both times

Its mounted right behind the fold down seat. The valve is pointed towards the front of the car.

That is how mine is aswell. Because of the MACH1000 I had to mount it there and sideways. All I just is reach back and open which I can do while I am cruising. No need for a $200 opener, I am my bottle opener

I hav a subwoofer box right behind the seats in the trunk...so no room. Didn't feel like spending the extra cash for a remote opener. The floor behind the passenger seat is very convenient for me. No passengers back there, and I can just reach back to open/close. Looks cool too! But, I'm gonna put a towel over it from now on. And if/when I ever get pulled over and asked...I'll say "officer, I just race at the track......please don't beat me!"

That's what you should've said from the beginning. Having a bottle and saying that you don't race is sort of contradictory so the cop probably wanted to ticket you just because he thought you were lying to him.

I was actually being honest with him. I don't take my car to the track, and I don't race on the street. Haven't been in a street race in 10 years or more. I just like to open it up every once in a while and see what it can do. Of course I didn't want to tell him that! Yeah, from now on, my story is that I take it to the local track.

I got popped in California. Modified emissions, had to remove the bottle and kit and go to the bearu of auto repair. Big pain in the ***. My bottle stays mounted in the trunk, I can't reach it, but if I plan on using it I just turn it on and leave it on, no biggie.

But ya, I'd just tell them its for track use and that'd be it.

"insufficient notice when changing out of a turning lane", I know I've heard that before. Oh yeah, that's cop speak for "I'm a gigantic douchebag and I'm pulling you over because you're driving a Mustang." Need proof? The fact that he had no reason for pulling you over until AFTER running your license and tags and finding nothing to charge you with. It doesn't matter what mods you have on it, just that it's a V8 Mustang and it might as well have a big bulls eye on it. If it has more power than a crown vic it's evil and we must stop it.

Jameslf,

I agree with you 100%. After harrassing me, they probably worked up an appetite and spent the rest of the night at a donut shop.

It's an age thing....I have never been bothered before. My Mustang has had nitrous, loud blower, and super loud exhaust.

BTW, the dam bottle belongs in the trunk.

I still cant understand why you said you dont race when you have a NOS bottle behind the seat?... if I was a cop I would of said the same thing about why do you have it... skip the run around next time and say you race at the track...

email or call internal affairs, that won't happen again. say what you want too in a calm manner, I always do, I even yelled at a sergeant that pulled me over for cutting him off, he calmed down and let me go, not all cops are asshats *what the hell am I saying*

my bottle is hidden in my spare tire wheel well, its my understanding that nitrous is illegal and if its hooked up (line connected to the bottle) weather or not its on doesn't matter idk the fine for it though.
