Default NOS Setup

Do I need to retune the car when I install the nitrous kit? If I just install the kit without a tune will it work or not? I have a tune already for the parts that I have already installed. Just wondering if I would have to install that particular tune for the nitrous and uninstall the one I have now or can it all be on one tune for all of the parts?

if you want to keep that engine you should get a tune.

some info has told me that some kits run lean which is ok... i mean if your going throught a bottle a day u would want probably, tuning never hurts..

This belongs in the power adder section, moving.

You will need a tune because the tune you already have installed on the car has advanced timing, leaner fuel curves etc.. which is not what you want with a nitrous kit. Any company that sells whatever tuner your using can set you up with a tune for your mods and on the bottle. Whenever you want to spray you would just upload the nitrous tune. However a dyno tune would be your best bet to gain the most power. Also please do not call it NOS that is a company that sells nitrous kits.

What kit do you have or are looking at getting I'm just curious.

what i've heard from my buddies with s197's is that the engine is so reliant on the computer, that even a CAI requires a tune... so if i were you, i'd definetly get it tuned.

cuz honestly, you have a 2008 mustang that you obviously spent some bank on. you're buying a nitrous kit which isn't cheap, and you probably bought the bottle warmer and purge nozzle package... why would you skimp out on the tune?? you;d get the most performance, and have it done safetly.

Doing it yourself isn't difficult, you'll end up spending atleast 500 bucks on a nitrous install (shop says it'll take 8 hours, 85 dollars an hour.. idk figure that pricing out)

Start out on a small conservative shot, 75-100 shot, on a dyno tune my friend hit 11.7 at the track with a 100 shot.

Be sure to buy a WET kit. Cannot stress that enough..

he may be able to do it himself, however i think that his first question (do i need to tune it after i do a nitrous kit?) kinda indicates that maybe he isn't the most mechanically inclined mustang owner ever.

not knocking you 08MustangGT.

Well, perhaps he should research what nitrous does and how it works and learn a little more about the car before he puts a power adder like this on

Information is your best friend, especially when it involves nitrous and a motor.

seriously... i know a lot of ppl that think nitrous is like they've seen in fast and the furious or in need for speed; that it only goes on when you press a button. in truth, you have it set so that it only goes on when you are at a certain rpm and at WOT, thats why you don't fry the engine...

08MustangGT, did you do your research??

If you can drill a few holes to mount the bottle and run the main line under the car, do some pretty simple wiring, then you can install a nitrous kit and save yourself the money for other mods. Its not very hard to install a nitrous kit and taking your time the install normally takes around 4-6 hours to do.

I also would highly suggest a WET nitrous kit if you have not made up your mind on wet or dry kits.

Also keep in mind you are going to need to run one step colder plugs for the nitrous you do not want to spray on those stock plugs. You need to run a plug like the ones found here http://www.steeda.com/products/heat_...spark_plug.php
