Default 7" Touchscreen and Mac Mini In Dash

I plan on cutting the plastic piece between the HVAC control and stock stereo bays to make a perfect 7 1/4 x 5 opening for a 7" Lilliput touch screen. A little fiberglass repair around the edges should make it look pretty stock. The goal is to use servos to control the AC ***** with the computer since they have to be removed to make room for the screen. I'll be putting a Mac Mini in the glovebox to use as my carputer. I photoshopped a picture to show what I want it to look like when I'm done. Anyone ever seen this done in a Mustang? I did some searching and couldn't find anything similar done to a stang.

Looks good. im doing the same.

ive got an amd xp 1600+, 256 ddram, ati radeon 9500 pro, cdrw, and dvd player for my car puter. Ive got to buy a desktop case so im buying a lian li HT case, and I need a USB GPS device, 12v power supply, and the 7" screen and its ready to go. Im gonna go with xenarc 7" tsv. should be pretty kickass, however im just removing the cd player and putting the screen there.

it was one of my plans for this winter.

I'm using a Mac because... I'm obsessed with Apple Computers. :P

I could never use a PC. I'm a fond believer that if any PC user used a Mac for a day they'd never go back.

Plus, the Mac Mini is cheeper than any PC you could build that size.
Also, I program Xcode (Mac programing language), so I'm going to be writing the GUI for my car including iTunes interface, DVD Player interface, GPS software control, Wifi finder, Bluetooth phone interface, and AC/Heat Controls.

for us PC guys, we have endless frontends to choose from and from those, we just pick the skin we would like to use which changes the entire look.

and springsstang its not my fault you are illiterate.

Sorry, but I like my mice to have at least two buttons...I also prefer to run something than MAC OS X on my PC. That whole variety thing is a big thing for me....and I started out using a Mac.

As for myself, I'm done with lcds's for a while, MIGHT get a flip out HU, right now I just use my laptop and a USB gps...suits me well, I would like to see your project when it's finished.

Yes, they can listen to CDs.

Ive already got the computer, I just need the few conversion thing. thats why Im doing it. I need a case, screen, dc/dc power supply, and USB GPS reciever. I might fork over for a nice 250gb HD too.
Car computers do more than any flip out screen can. ill spend about 600 on mine total.

13.5@104 before headers and xpipe. im focusing on something other than performance for now. id like to do something different that not many people have... a computer in the car is the way. ill be able to mess with my SCT and reprogram it from my car, odbII managment, amung other things, so yes Ill have programs for the car itself.

Yeah, I've got an automatic V6... I don't have much to say about performance mods :P

I'm putting the money where it's worth it for now, though I've been looking into getting a Cobra in the summer.

this a good website for those car PC. as far as the Mac VS Pc battle they both offer good things and they are both lacking in being the complete OS. i know this because i am both Microsoft Certified System Engineer cert. and Apple helpdesk and Xserver cert. oh by the way Microsoft vista so far looks alot like Mac OS tiger.

It all depends what you want. you can take an old computer and add a screen which is anywhere from 100-500+, a turn on/off module which is about 40 bucks or you can get a 12v dc/dc power supply for your computer and those have em in it for 75 to 150 depending on what you want.
you can spend about 500 bucks and have an nice setup or go all out with hardware and be 1000+ bucks.
