LoL yea but isn't that picture for the mounting of the shift light? And why do you need the light to tell you when too shift? Shouldn't you know when to shift by how the engine sounds and feel's? I just don't understand that...I've been driving stick on my mustang as my first car and I always know when to shift...

it's not for casual driving. it's there so that you can get as close to the rev limited without bouncing off of it while keeping your eyes on the road which is where they should be when you're racing...
i have a shift light in my car and its one of the best things i've spent my money on.

i've never heard of one triggered by sound. mine is hooked up to the tach (actually a tach adapter box thing). they come with pill kit which lets you select what rpm to set it at. that way when you get to that rpm you know to shift. i dont even use the tach when racing now. just keep my eyes straight. shift when you see a flash of light.
