Default Brake install finished!!

Finally got 'em done on my day off last tuesday. Sorry for the quality they're cell phone pics and my hands were shaky (as always).

Their 14" Baer rotors as you can see, Hawk HPS pads, and changed the fluid to DOT 4.

My brake lines got held up with snow so they won't be here for a few more days and I have some MGP caliper covers coming after I get my christmas money rounded up. And I have the PBR Caliper upgrade coming from another guy, but they won't be here for a while since he is on vacation and still has to take them off of the car.

When all this snow disappears and it dries up a bit another photoshoot is in the works with all four of the stangs.

Enjoy.

There was also a trick to the rears that got me caught up for a bit. I had knew that the rears required a special tool to collapse the caliper, but the S197s have to be turned and compressed at the same time.

So I had to get the kit from O'Reillys to get the rears done.

Examples:

looks good.

I woulda waited till I had all the brake parts before upgrading any of the brake system though. You're going to have to flush the brake system again, after you replace the lines, and/or the calipers.

Already got that fixed. The fluid is changed, but nothing is ran through the system. In other words I capped off the reservoir until the other parts come in. Plus, I had to change my brakes now because my other pads were cracking and had crystallized from the last track run I had so they needed to be done now.

So right now I'm driving the Termi in 6 inches of snow lol. Fun stuff.

excessive breaking they wear out quick.. but the s197s are weird, the back of the car must have WAYYY longer axles than sn95s. i noticed this by the spacing on the break rotor.

Not necessarily bad, but not necessarily good either. All depends on the quality of the rotors you buy. If you buy $40 slotted/drilled rotors, you'll get what you pay for, warping, possibly even fractures. I would never put drilled rotors on a street car though, but that's all personal opinion.

As far as I know it's the same old 8.8. May be wrong though. PS, they're called BRAKES.

Brakes look good man, I need to change my front pads soon. They're pretty much done for.

Slotted rotors offer better braking under rain, cool from high temps faster than full face rotors, and expel gas and debris faster. But they offer less surface area.

Idk what the whole wear faster thing is about, because they wear just as fast. Unless you use full carbon or ceramic pads you don't have to worry about every replacing them anyways. Unless it is a full track car.

Also, no one offers a reasonable full faced rotor kit that is any bigger than stock rotors. So I'll keep my drilled/slotted and my $1000 I didn't waste on the Steeda or Roush kit.

It's definitely worth it man. Seriously it stops so much shorter and there is no doubt that I'd do it all over again. This set-up will last you even after you get the SC.

The only thing I would do differently is to maybe get some more race-ready pads, but with the cold weather we have here it'd never work in the winter. If I lived in florida I would've gotten the next hawk pads up from the HPS.

Thanks guys. I appreciate it. They work great and feel amazing. Even in almost 10 inches of rain fall they were throwing me through the windshield.

Anyone looking for a budgeted brake upgrade, I highly recommend these kits.

Thats more your tires working than the brakes...in the wet like that.

Glad they are working for you so far, you're really gonna like them after you get the rest of the brake parts on there.

True, but compared to my stock rotors that either didn't grab at all, or went instantly into ABS they are a major improvement.

I know, they look 10x better now. The thing that sucks is that Missouri has gotten like 13+ inches of snow so now its sitting outside all dirtied up.

I will be so glad when I graduate and can move back to Tennessee. Or maybe just to Florida or Texas. Somewhere with almost no snow and a track and/or the Dragon.

Move to Florida... central Florida. You can hang out with us and I won't be the only S197 at the meets!
