Maybe he did it to comply with local laws. Around here it is technically illegal to swap a different engine into a vehicle made after 1996, because vehicles made after that year are required to undergo emissions testing. If they find out that you did something like that I think they are allowed to impound it. Of course, he probably just used that car because he likes the older body style more . Anyways.. Cool project. I'm normally not a fan of half breeds, but that thing is sweet. The one thing I don't like about it is the fact that he is running a filter-less turbo setup.. I can't stand when people do that.

Cause maybe he likes that body style. Why did you get a V6 and not a V8!

you learn stuff every day, i didnt know emissions went for 96 and up.. thats cool. which we dont get emissions testing in ky. But yeah. I guess maybe he does like those better.. But i got a v6 because i had big plans, but they got shot down because i want the sound of an 8.. either way i still have fun driving it, and people around ask me if it has a 302 in it.

emissions depend from state to state. back home in pa emissions have to meet the frame of the vehicle, so if someone put a 4.6 in a 60's mustang you wouldnt need cats or egr or anything. same thing vice versa though, if you put a boss 429 in a new edge mustang would have to develope egr catsand everything else

It used to be that all vehicles in Illinois had to be tested, but I guess they got tired of having to test vehicles without a standard data retrieval system (which is anything made before OBDII came out in 1996.) Vehicles prior to that year also had to be dyno tested, which is probably another reason why they stopped it. Doesn't really make much sense from an emissions standpoint though, since I would think that the older cars are the ones that are more likely to pollute
