Default So, I tinted my headlights....

As some of you know, I am a painter for a body shop, so I decided to spray tint my headlights the same way I tinted my taillights. Only thing is I put a little too much black in with the clearcoat. Some of you may like it, I'm not digging it, but I'm sure someone will want to buy them or trade me for their stockers which i will do again, just not so dark. I was going for the smoked look like the ones you can buy from AM but these just went a little beyond "smoked". They are more pitch black. Not that I drive much at night, but I don't think I will be able to see jack if I do... I know, I need to do the fogs too if I do smoked headlights, but I am trying to find an 01 Cobra bumper to put on so I will probably leave the fogs as they are so I can sell them when I find a cobra bumper since I will get new fogs with the cobra bumper. Anyway here are some pics.

Looks like you did an awesome job, but as you said, their too dark for my taste. I personally like being able to see the reflectors. Love the license plate frame lol.

That is the exact reason I'm not digging it. I wanted them darker, but still be able to see the reflectors.

The headlights look good I think. Really goes with the rest of the car.

Not to be a dick, but I agree with spinz. It really throws it off. Mods delete my post if its not necessary lol.

The lights I tinted were clear corner lights with the black housing from AM but I don't see them on the website anymore. I guess they don't have them and are just doing the dark smoked lights with the clear corners now which are identical to the one's I have, just the lens is smoked...

I think they look badass, I love how dark they are. I like the ford emblem a lot too, I'm wanting to do that to mine except with a mach 1 emblem.

Wow, awesome job painting them though!

I know, I'm over how dark my covers are and I keep blowing my money before I can buy the AM smoked ones as well!

not too bad man, just a little on the dark side, lol. Once you get them a little lighter it will be perfect. And I love your stang soo much, it is one of the best yellows out there.

i like them dark, i think it goes great with the rest of the black. did you try them out at night? hope you can get some money for them since you already bought the new ones.

Question though. why didn't you just sand them down and repaint them?

also i kinda like the ford emblem. sets it apart

Its not so easy to sand them down when you are sanding back down to plastic. You get spots where its goes back down to the plastic and spots where you are still sanding the tint off. Then you end up leaving grooves where the plastic is exposed...ahhh, its hard to explain. I actually did it on one of the lights, and almost had it so messed up that I ended up wet sanding it decently smooth and just respraying it back really dark. And yes, I tried them out, and I would be thanking god for not tinting my fog lights cuz you couldn't hardly see anything at all on the road.

So I got the AM smoked headlights in the mail today. They are just about the perfect darkness I think. The pics actually make them look a little darker than I think they are. Going to throw some HID's in and all should be well

Much better. And I do have to agree that your car is the sickest yellow on these forums. This is a random question, but I was curious what taillight tint you've got. I was thinking about order some of the vinyl ones, but I wasn't sure how it'd turn out.

I spray tinted mine with a tinted clearcoat. I had the vinyl ones and they were ok but they were not as shiny as I wanted them to be. I would be willing to do a set for ya, but we kind of have a distance problem unless u want to send me some junkyard lights or something like that...

We'll see. I'll give the vinyl tint a shot and see if I like it. I just worry that it won't be able to hold up to the elements here in Colorado. I'll definitely let you know if it doesn't work though. Either way I'm not ordering anything until I have a job (which *knock on wood* may be tomorrow)...I'm hoping to hear back from a detailer in town....so hopefully soon I'll be able to get back in the modding game.

Thats cool. The vinyl is pretty thick so you may be surprised at how well it holds up. I just didn't like the shine as said before and it doesn't get all the way to the edge of the taillight. If all else fails give me a shout. I will keep my eyes open at junkyards and will pick up some sets if I see any and tint them so I will have some around should you need a set.

Good luck on the job. I am searching for one too. I have a job, but looking for something better. Not the greatest job market out there at the moment.

Thanks for the compliments everyone
