epic snowboard day.

thought i'd share my excitement. did some incredible backcountry riding today. 2-5 feet of powder, 40 degree weather and sun.
here's a pic I took from the bottom. Although it doesn't do the ridge we dropped from any justice. we dropped from the midddle rightish ridge in the picture. it was probably a 15 story 80 degree drop. insane. then it mellowed out a bit. but i've never dropped from anything that intense. super fun day. Where is that at? (I'm also considering buying a burton board too)
|
that was at arapahoe basin. don't buy burton.
|
Why not a burton? I tried it on today and it felt good. It was one of the few that was comfortable for me.
|
Hey, Badfishy, you sold the Evo. You dont need to use words like "Epic" to fit in anymore
lol |
That looks great. All the "mountains" in Michigan blow hard. And King, if that's what your comfortable with, then go for it. But there's definitely some better boards out there if you look hard enough.
|
nice man, i wish we could get some powder. i was snowboarding today and it snowed for about an hour and we got like 1 inch other then that it was all ice. lol

burton snowboards are very heavy and are made very poor imo, i broke one in 2 trips. i bought a ride DH and after using that board i think i might be buying ride for life.lol |
We'll see...I'm hoping to go up this next weekend (31st) so we'll see 1) if I actually go and 2) if I go, what board I rent and see if I like it. Then if all is good, I'll go into buy mode.....We shall see
--sorry about the thread jacking, Jon. |
most people rent out burton boards so if you go, you will get a really junk burton board and it wont be any thing close to a board you would buy.
if you go buy a burton board it will have a lot more pop then the rental board will have and it will have better edges and bindings. so dont compare the boards becouse the rental boards are not that good. |
don't worry it's a snowboard thread. any snowboard bullshitting welcome :)
|
But at the same time I'm not going to go out and buy a board for my first time snowboarding.
|
and it's not that burton equipment is terrible. shit I own a burton ak jacket, full gore-tex 550 goose down. it's light but warm. thing is sick. but burton as a company just blows. plus their lowerend shit really is lower end.
|
Any boards you recommend? I've been board searching today and might again tomorrow some...would definitely like your input. I'm hoping to be one of the first 30 people that win the 93.3 tickets to Breckenridge next Saturday...
|
what kind of riding are you going to be doing just going down the hill or are you going to get in to some park stuff?
Edit: and whats you high, wait and size boot. i kind of have to know before i recommend some thing. |
Was that at a ski mountain or just some backcountry you went to?

go with ride! I like their equipment personally. Burton is a good company and all and i have some of their gear, but it's kinda like when you go to high school and see everybody wearing say...Von Dutch (prob not even famous anymore...damn i'm getting old)....it wasn't that it was the BEST looking clothes...but all the popular kids had it so everybody else wanted it. It's just a big name and everybody feels like if the name is big...that means it's the shit! Wrong......
P.S. I've never worn Von Douche in my life. i like that mtn badfish....where's that at? |
If I remember correctly, Arapahoe Basin is up in Dillon, Colorado (I think that's the name of the town anyway).

you live in colorado and have never been? are u lame as fuck or what? im in orlando and have been 8 times. |
No, I'm just too busy. I've got a life and (unlike some people) don't spend all waking hours of the day tormenting people online. Plus, it's not a cheap hobby and I'm not Mr. Moneybags.
|
And by the way, I totally forgot that THIS is the weekend of the 31st so I will not be making it up today...
|
im not mr moneybags either and i have to actually fly, all you do is pay for lift tickets and rental.
|
It's not a cheap hobby, and most of the time I don't have the funds to get just a lift ticket or pay for rentals.
|
i would go with the ride fleetwood in a 165cm, then just find the boots that fit right and the binding that fit the board and boots.

That's a pretty expensive board for a beginner. honestly man, when learning, the board isn't going to make much of a difference. a better board will probably facilitate your learning better, but not so dramatically that you would notice any difference. just buy the right size according to your height and weight (which is what by the way?) and don't buy burton. :)
no offense 3.8, but I'm not so sure a 165 wide is such a good suggestion. a 165 is more for a 200lb 6'1" dude. that is a big fuckin board, and it'll just make it harder to maneuver while learning. |

King said he was 6'5'' 257lbs... looks like 3.8's suggestion actually isnt big enough...if the boards do need to be bigger for bigger people. (I have no idea...I fucking hate snow)
if he was not a beginner i think he would be on a 172 but a 172 would be to big for him to start out on imo. |
my bad. I had no idea he was 6'5" 257 size 14 LOL. so it was a great recommendation...
jesus king, what the hell do you eat? |
