40th Anniversary GT Vert

40th Anniversary GT Vert

Although I loved the look of this car, without a rear spoiler it was missing that GT look. To keep it clean and yet provide a nice aggressive look, I installed a Cobra spoiler… once painted it gives the car a well balanced look. The stock rims were also too dark so I dropped the FR500’s on it… I’d like to keep the car as sleeper as possible so I haven’t changed any other external appearance items.

Mod list:
Steeda GT Sport Springs
Steeda Tie Rod Ends
Steeda X2 Ball Joints
UPR “Shark” Caster/Camber Plates (these suck and will be replaced next week)
Steeda Cold Air Intake
Accufab 75mm Throttle body & Plenum
March Underdrive Pulleys
Steeda GT Cat Back Exhaust
Tokico Shocks and Struts
FRPP 3.73 Gears
FRPP FR500 18x9
Steeda Tri Axe Short Throw Shifter
Diablo Predator Inside
2003 Cobra Spoiler w/light
Simco Gauges
Alpine CDA-9833 (MACH1000 fully tied in – will upgrade 10” woofers to Alpine)
Alpine KCA-420I (iPod Interface)

I plan to roll back some mods to drop in a supercharger – but that wont happen till next spring. The only body mods I plan yet are to change out the fog lights to clear lenses and install the MACH 1 chin spoiler.

Parts, paint and labor at a local Ford dealership ran me around $1000.... but the look was worth it to me. These are the FR500 (Silver w/Machined Lip) rims... I changed out the centercaps back to pony's...

SPiN 07-10-2005 06:28 PM

Lances03SVT 07-10-2005 06:47 PM

haha..after reading one of megan's(cruise and getting hit on) thread...i thought it was time for a break...and they believed that i actually screwed my rear bumper inserts up

Lances03SVT 07-10-2005 07:01 PM

Yes I thought of that but most of them were DSG.I almost bought one.

Lances03SVT 07-10-2005 07:02 PM

They are also wet sanding a scratch on my hood scoop and a spot I have on my bumper, all for $75

Shaker242 07-10-2005 07:19 PM

You have to remember that I paid full OE price from the dealership, the spoiler was $500, the light was $150 and the rest was install and paint... I would agree that $1000 is high, and I didn't expect it... but had to have it. So I sucked it up and had it installed... If I had to do it again, I'd go to ebay or a junk yard first, but I chose the dealer since they estimated it at $650. Later I found out they picked the wrong spoiler. When the correct parts were located and delivered, I just couldn't say no.

Lances03SVT 07-10-2005 07:20 PM

I understand that.

40thblckgt 07-10-2005 09:08 PM

shaker,

I love your color and the spoiler. I actually just bought the cobra spoiler and am waiting for it from Ford. How hard was installing it?

Thanks,
Brandon

Shaker242 07-10-2005 09:17 PM

There are two Cobra spoilers, the kits are different! They have a standard kit that does not require the light assembly and also comes with a template for install (much cheaper aftermarket version). The OE Cobra spoiler with light assembly (like the one I have) does not come with a template so unless you have the dealer install it, I'd recommend checking and triple checking before you drill those holes. My spoiler was dealer installed... cuz I'm a chicken ;)

Best of luck to you...

04Mustang 07-10-2005 10:50 PM

a spoiler I like, nice :D might have to get one eventually

awesome looking car

rebelyell 07-10-2005 11:20 PM

That "spoiler" looks great man. Not like the stock "wing" they put on the 04's. I'm starting to hate mine. That's what they should have put on all GT's.

Badfish 07-10-2005 11:44 PM

i would only change like 1 thing about your car, pick one accent :) you have like silver rims, gold trim, gold top, gold stripes, and black letter inserts

Shaker242 07-11-2005 09:57 AM

SpringsStang I would agree with the rear inserts, I do plan on either removing them all together or going parchment/gold... but the silver rims look sweet and tie in the silver 40th Anniversary button on the sides of the car. I could de-chrome some by doing a grill delete... and that may be an option in the future too.

Congrats on being the 1st member to put on the Cobra rear wing. I think its the nicest factory wing that ford has done and one of the nicest aftermarket ones as well. It was expensive but well worth it,going fast is awesome but looking good while going fast is where its at.

Shaker242 07-11-2005 10:53 AM

Thanks... I'll take a picture with the top down and post it too, it really does the vert justice to have this spoiler.

I say a white vert and it looks awesome with the top down and the Cobra wing its like peanut butter and jelly :lovestory

40thblckgt 07-11-2005 12:40 PM

Ok, thanks Shaker. I had mine ordered straight from the Ford dealer. So its the OEM spoiler. I have heard that you just gotta be really careful to make the holes. Do you know how many screws they used? (if you look at yours under the trunk)?

Thanks,
Brandon

Shaker242 07-11-2005 01:35 PM

I think there are four, two on the top and two on the back on either side of the light assembly. I figured with some large construction paper you could make your own template... Was my thought before I tossed in the towel.
