wasnt the fiero the worst car ever built and subsequently discontinued pretty quickly?...motor heads round the block say it has a lawn mower engine...it was only good as a kit car...something for the guys to put a ferrari kit on and make a wish

The entire frame and structure is like one solid roll cage with flexible panels on top. The reason it is not ranked number one is the fact that it does not have air bags, since they didn't come into play on cars until later.
yes, I will admit that some of the 4 cylinder engine models do sound like lawn mowers or sewing machines, but that 4 banger engine has been around for years and is very reliable and gets good gas mileage, which is probably the reason why you still see many 4 cyl and 6 cyl Fieros still on the road today. The V6's are very quick and a stock V6 has a nice exhaust tone to it as well. I have dual exhaust on a few of my 4 banger Fieros and they sound really nice too.
If ANY car is taken care of properly it can be a very reliable car. The reason why some Fieros had problems (mostly in the first year) and why some people have this stigma about them is the fact that people would buy these cars thinking they were bullitt proof sports cars and then beat the crap out of them and never check the oil, etc.
The reason it was discontinued was because in the mid 80's GM was going through a lot of turmoil. The Fiero going through the natural progression of upgrades and new models was becoming as quick as a Corvette at less than half the price. Pontiac was testing Fieros at the track with V8's in the mid engine bay against the latest vettes at the time and the Fieros were blowing the doors off the Vettes. So since GM couldn't have an upstart beating their prestige vette they used the turmoil at GM to get the Fiero canceled. The 88 Fieros had just gone through a major new upgarde with a new suspension and other features and was primed to have a high powered V6 like a 3800 installed when it was killed.
All three of my kids own Fieros. My daughter was in a major accident a few years ago when a lady ran a red light and t-boned her in the drivers door and pushed her across the street into a traffic light pole in the passengers side. It totaled the Fiero and yet she walked away. The Fiero though being totaled by the insurance company actually was not that bad at all and my Dad had it back like new again in a few weeks and back on the road once again keeping my daughter in a reliable and very safe car.
My oldest son slid on a bad icy road one time in his GT and slammed into a guard rail at 40 mph. Not getting into why he was on the slippery raods going 40 to begin with LOL he was uninjured and the car was easily repaired. Almost any other car in that situation would have been totaled and sent to the yard.
So, go ahead and say what you want about the Fiero, bash it and insult it all you want (the more people think they are bad cars the lower they cost for those of us who know better) but the facts are what they are and my kids are living proof that these cars are for real and live up to that billing.

Granted the majority of the Fieros that you might run across on an average drive down your street may be a plain jane high mileage stock model, but the ones that go to a show like the Dells, Carlisle, POCI, etc are either low mileage show winning stock versions or highly modified beasts that can and have embarrassed many a car driver that assumed as you are that it all Fieros are merely **** buckets

I know he said Fiero but I meant a GT Fiero. I couldn't tell because it was too far away in the pic to tell if it was a GT or not.

You might actually want to try searching the web and do some history and research. The Fiero was and still is one of the safest cars EVER built. It is still ranked number two below a Volvo as the safest car on the road today.

LOL Well.....actually... some of those "**** buckets" as you call them have 3800 V6 superchargers, Northstar V8's, LT-1's, LS-1's, etc in their engine bays with lots of other mods that would totally spank many a Mustang out there.

They are a pain to get to I will admit but no you don't have to pull the motor. The worse thing we ever had to do was on one of ours the rear plugs were siezed in pretty bad and so we removed the rear deck lid to get them better, but that only takes a few minutes anyway so it wasn't that big a deal.

Not usually. It's bad enough to hear these same silly comments all too often from people who don't even know where a spark plug is located and yet they suddenly become knowledgeable experts on the history of an entire car they obviously know nothing about. So when I hear it from car people who should be at least smart enough to google on a subject before commenting on something....

Probably arent much worse than my 91 firebird was with the 305. I had to get a couple of them underneath with a swivel extension. Good thing I'm pretty skinny. heheh...
Forgot to say earlier that you have some really nice Fieros. I'm really not into them much anymore but I can really appreciate a car that old that is that nice. Very cool 80's cars. When I was a kid my brother had an old (new then) Ford EXP. lol.. He always wished it was a Fiero. LOL!
