Wish i could come down and take some notes. I am wrenching this week also but not near as much as you.

Icefreezen 05-09-2006 06:02 PM

Just one support? Bolt or weld in?

HUH? The support just sits between the fenders and supports the motor while I drop the K member. Here is a better pic:

Cool idea! Looks so simple it as to work. Good luck with the install.

mcmmotorsports 05-09-2006 06:15 PM

The bracket that bolts to the block is sold through Ford for $33. I will make my own for nuttin.

My bad I thought that was going inder the chasis for some reason..lol

I thought you had to jack the motor up a few inches to install. Will that allow you to do that? Damn engine bay is soo tight.

There are two ways to install headers. #1 is by taking the bolt off of one motor mount at a time and jack the motor up 3-4 inches. It is very cramped, but does not require you to remove the K member. Way #2 is removing the K member. This allows simple access to ALL of the header bolts and is the preferred way to install headers.

Good luck with the install, it me and a friend about 7hrs or so....Results are awesome!!

dfroster 05-09-2006 06:30 PM

understand. I just hate to think of that install from the ground, ie:no lift. I have a set of SLP that came with my kit but have yet to tackle. The guy who is going to do my gear, rear, axle install said he'd do it all in the same day. I'd like to save the $ and do that part myself. I have not talked to anyone who has really done it, just what i've read and have seen under my own car.

mcmmotorsports 05-09-2006 06:35 PM

Funny thing is I have a friend with a lift and he told me I could use it for however long I need it. I opted to install them in my own garage. No time limit and I can work on it when I want to.

madmatt 05-09-2006 06:45 PM

WOO HOO Lts for Mike. My good man, where on earth did you get such a fine set of headers...:D

you live in georgia! you never have to worry about snow...you can drive your cobra all year round and not worry...why are you paying for an awesome car, to not drive it? i never understood that...I could see if you lived here, and every other week during winter, the roads are covered in ice for days....but thats not the case! blah!

k ill get off my soap box

too funny....Well I have been driving my 03 cobra now for 3yrs as my daily driver as it has 46k miles on it. I also had an 01 cobra vert before this one and it was my daily driver for 2.5yrs as I put 36k on that car. I am getting to the point that I want to take this car off the road and put it up and have it for shows, good weather and racing. Not to mention with gas now I am paying about 550 a month just for my car and the wife is over $400 for her expedition..so thats 1k a month just in GAS!!!

Badfish 05-09-2006 11:21 PM

screw that....why in the HELL does your wife need a big ass expedition? seriously...get her a smaller more gas efficient SUV...I'm just saying, if I got a cobra, no WAY would I pull out of my garage every morning in a pos, and watch the cobra leave
