Default A couple of parts and a couple of Q's.

Randy,

I need a few things, need to know if I need a few others, and would like some prices on some I might need. Now, my disclaimer: this is going to have a bunch of questions. If they're easy for you to answer (like you may know some from memory) great, if they're not, I can certainly go bug the heck out of my local parts guy... then come back to you.

Sorry this is my first post, I followed you over here from MD. I've been a member on Corral for a while as well, though I'm definitely a lurker in general.

A touch of background so my questions don't seem totally random: I have what started out as an 01 v6. I completed a GT swap, got it running and done, but found out the hard way it needed a rod bearing. While rebuilding the motor I found a great deal on an 01 4v setup, with virtually everything needed to swap. Before getting anywhere near done, I acquired most of the parts for an 01-->03 swap, but am piecing together the missing bits.

First of all the things that I know I need (for an 03 Cobra):
The coolant outlet that bolts to the back of the P/S head (with it's O-ring)
The hose which connects this to the heatercore/firewall
The other heatercore hose which connects to the hard line under the intake
(I believe that on the 03 they used the clip fittings instead of clamps like the older cars, correct? I prefer the clips)
New O-rings for said hard line under the intake
New waterpump O-ring
Center timing cover gasket (I'm assuming that the other 2 are the same from my 01 cover, yes?)
Harness pigtail for the intercooler pump
Blower to intake gasket
Is there an intercooler to blower gasket? or is it just RTVed?

Things I'm not sure about (and I'm sure there will be more... I'll be back ):
The above mentioned hardline that goes under the intake, can you tell me if it's the same between an 03 Cobra and 99 GT? I'm pretty sure they are, but not 100%

Finally, stuff I'm not sure if I'll need or not (might be getting them from the guy I bought the majority of my 03 parts from), but I'd like prices on:
vacuum line "harness" for an 03 Cobra (the pretty plastic lines that all fall into place, instead of rouge hose everywhere)
main belt tensioner (the 6 rib/rear belt, not the blower belt)
I'm not 100% sure what hooks up to the bottom of the intake (it's a tapped port right in the "lifter" valley) but I think it's the PCV--if it is, I think I'm gonna need it, if it's not, any idea what it is?
throttle cable bracket that bolts on top of the blower
throttle and cruise cables
can you tell me if the egr valve itself is the same as either a GT or 01 cobra?
complete set (both sides) of valve cover bolts (outrageous I'm guessing )

I'm sure I'm forgetting things, but that's why I'm not expecting to have the car running this weekend... heck it's been a year at this point!

Like I said, if any of these are a pain to answer, I'll bug others.

Thanks,
-Kris

ha ha. It's a good point for sure, but when I did the GT swap I got a ridiculous deal on the whole setup, and there was no chance that I could afford selling the car and buying a GT, let alone a 4V. Then while rebuilding the GT motor, I became slightly less broke, and found another ridiculous deal on the 4V setup.

Either way, I'll still be ahead of where I would be if I'd sold the v6 and bought a termi, and I wouldn't have a forged shortblock.

Thanks for the comment though

Thumbs up

Randy,

I got the fax, thanks. I looked over it, and did a little more research. Below is a list of parts that I'm going to go ahead and order. When I find out whether or not I need some of the others I'll get back to you. Thanks!
  1. W704593S100 - x2 - Heater Tube O-rings
  2. F1VY-8507-A - Water Pump O-ring
  3. XR3Z-18B402-DA - Heater outlet for P/S head (often modified for use in D/S, aka "crack pipe", but I actually need it for the P/S)
  4. 2R3Z-9H486-AA - Intercooler to Blower Gasket
  5. 2R3Z-9L438-BA - It looks like the number you gave me (and by the qty 2) is for the intake to head gaskets, I need the intake to blower, which I believe is this number
  6. F3LY-6020-B - This looks to be the center timing cover gasket, but I think it's for an 01, I need one for the iron block 03 with the moved bolt hole
  7. Lastly I need a set of head gaskets for an 01 cobra. I've read that they're different between 01s and 03s, so to be clear, I'm using an 01 block and heads.
Fax Number is the same as above.

Thanks,
-Kris

ok, gotcha....now for #6, that gasket fits all N/A DOHC's up to 2004, so what front cover are you using?
and #7, yes 2003/04 Cobra head gaskets are different but only because they are thicker, otherwise all N/A SOHC's and DOHC's use the same head gasket thru 2004

Randy,

For #6 I'm using the S/C 03 Cobra front cover.

Now it makes sense for #7. Is the 03 S/C gasket better for F/I, aside from the drop in compression if it's installed thickness is greater? I did quite a bit of searching, but found hardly anything on the subject. All I gathered was that -maybe- the 03 gasket is from Cometic, and the other is in-house Ford. Not positive on that.

If they're truly the same except for thickness, then I'm going to stick with the 01 gaskets, as my compression is plenty low enough. If the 03 is a stouter gasket under F/I then I'll go with that one. I did read that you're the person to ask about head gaskets, any recommendation for someone running the 03 eaton at ~12lbs.?

Thanks,
-Kris

Last quick question... a friend of mine would like the price for the California Special Side scoops for an 05-08 Mustang. And I'm pretty sure that they come unpainted, correct?

Thanks,
-Kris
