Default 97 Mustang GT

I recently purchased my first Mustang, a '97 4.6L GT at auction. The previous owner had made some modifications for the strip that I am still trying to firgure out (air intake, throttle body, performance chip, short throw shifter, 4.10 rear end, 165 15 front, 295 50 15 rear on Weld wheels). I have no intention on racing the car at the strip so I would like to change the rear end to something less aggressive than the 4.10s for the street. A buddy suggessted 3.55 or 3.73. Any suggesstions? I would like something more aggressive than the 3.27 that came stock. Also, my local Ford dealer said that to recalibrate the speedometer to compensate for the change in rear end they would have to pull the transmission ($400). Is there an easy (and less costly) way to recalibrate the speedometer without pulling the transmission? Any suggestions anyone has to offer will be greatly appreciated.

I have 4.10s and use it for everyday driveing. But if you still dont want them, get 3.73s or 3.90's...You can buy a Speedcal for a hundred bucks, or a tuner like the diablo sport, or SCT xcal 2 will calibrate your speedometer...400 bucks is alot, just for a recalibration...I dont know much about speedcals since I used a tuner, but ask around, and welcome!~

yeah, 4.10s really aren't that bad. Unless you travel lots of highway miles daily i would keep them. Also get a tuner. You will spend 400 or so but its well worth it. You can change your speedo and get a few more horses
