hey guys, ive got a couple of questions, when looking for parts, mainly internals for these 5.4s some of the sites are 5.4 specific so when im trying to find stuff im not sure exactly what im looking for, like rods and pistons and bearings. also what would you guys say is a safe amount to have the block bored? 20 or 30 over, or i should ask, whats the max before having to sleeve it? if its 30 i only want to go 20 over so if something were to happen and i need to do a total rebuild i have the option of going that extra 10 over. Thanks in advance, i actually feel pretty dumb asking. i can assemble the whole thing but i cant correctly find parts ha

If I remember right, the pistons and bearings are the same on 4.6/5.4's You'll need a 5.4 specific crank and rods. I would just bore it enough to clean up the cylinders, 30 is probably the most I'd go.

You do need to be careful on pistons though, some places will list the compression in a 4.6 and it will be alot higher in a 5.4, so double check the compression ratio before you order em.

Actually it is just the opposite. The 5.4 engine has 0.120" running clearance from the piston at TDC to the top of the deck, while the 4.6 is only like 0.010" (I don't remember the exact dimensions, but that is close enough for my point). While the pistons used in the 4.6 and 5.4 are the same, you will have LESS compression with the same piston installed in a 5.4L. For example, the stock PI setup yields a 9.3:1 CR in a 4.6, and only 9.0:1 in a 5.4L. If you are not going to be using forced injection, I would suggest going with a flat-top piston when ordering your 0.30" over-bore pistons. That should yield you about a 10:1 CR... still very safe for pump gas.

Default 5.4L parts for sale

I've been threatening to revert my car back to a 4.6 for a while now in order to sell it easier and put it toward a new car... Well now that I have seen the 2013's I'm pulling the trigger finally. I realized that my car is actually worth just the same whether it has the 5.4 with all the work put into it or a stock 4.6... so I will be putting my 4.6 back in.

Here are a list of components that are for sale:
If anyone is interested, please PM me and we can work out a fair selling (and shipping) price.

TwEECer R/T
HPS Hardball'r Intake
Trickflow upper intake elbow & 75mm TB
Comp XE270AH Cams
Comp Adjustable Cam gears

awesome information, thank you. looking to run just 20 over so if i needed to do a full blown rebuild again i could go that extra 10. also for running forced induction, and/or nitrous, what kind of compression ratios should i aim for? ive been doing some research into the whole turbo and supercharger world. id like to have it set up so i can drive it around town but when i want to get a little wild and take it to the track i could turn up the boost and change tune. also what do yall prefer, H style or I style rods?

Well I guess let me clarify, some companies make 5.4 specific pistons, and they have MUCH higher compression ratios. They do away with that .120 clearance.
http://www.excessiveracing.com/DRP-C3001854.aspx

I take it you plan on running 93?

I'd go with the same TMD rods as the rest of us, they were like $350 H beams.

Hey, guys. I've learned a lot in this thread thus far.

I was just wondering if you guys could help me.

I'd like to go all motor (N/A), and push a respectable 350 HP. Less or more is still fine. (converting a V6 '98, so any power is better than that horrific engine)

I'm up in the air whether I should get a 2v or a 4v, and what I should do to either?

I was pricing the 5.4L specific pistons that increase the compression to like 11.2:1 in a 4-valve application. But for pistons / rods, it's $1,350.
And I do want more aggressive cams. Because they will give me better power and sound awesome doing it.

Any help would be appreciated.
