Switched To FIPK and OMG!!!!!!

My tuner has told me about the problem with the elbow bend in the CAI's and how it could really hurt your A/F and have it bounce all over. I had the BBK CAI and when he saw it (BBK has the elbow where the filter is in the fender wall) this is when he mentioned about the CAI. We did a dyno pull on it since I was getting it tuned anyways and well he was extremely surprised that the elbow did NOT affect the A/F one bit. Maybe my car was a little different or the BBK has a relatively good design to it. It does fit very well however.

My CAI did not fit well however. And its a big pain trying to change or even install the filter unless you pull back the fenderliner. If you have the BBK it may have a different bend that allows you to put a conical filter on it that points straight down. Is that how yours is? The MAC bend puts an odd shaped filter crammed AGAINST the body of the car. That means only about half of the filter is exposed to an open space of air. That is one of the commonly missed problems when working with those things. The K&N FIPK puts the filter in a completely unobstucted area and you can take off the headlight for possibly a "Ram Air" effect.

If it doesnt hurt the A/F ratio I say keep it but I wouldnt tell my friend to buy one. It MAY work and it MAY NOT but when im paying good money for an intake I wanna be SURE it works.

He's just not familiar with modular engines, needless to say I have a real real good tuner now with his own dyno. Anyhow, yes, my filter is directly into the fender, where you can not see any of the filter when the hood is open. I was sucked into this design because I wasn't too familiar with mustangs yet, I thought the federwall design would help because of cooler temps. Never thinking about a bend in the tube. If I was to do it again, I know a lot would say just do a drop in K&N or the FIPK, but I would do a straight JLT.
