Default No muffs?

Hay, anyone out there running str8 pipes on your 4.6? I've been told that the 4.6 sounds great that way.

I ran straight pipes on my 99 gt with cats. Every one said it sounded great but it was really loud in the car i couldent stand it any more and I lost power and it killed my gas mileage. I took it off after about 2 months and got a flowmaster cat back.

backpressure is a myth. you dont need it. the more free flowing an exhaust the more power. it will sound OK at WOT but it will sound like **** otherwise. i ran stock manifolds with an OR Xpipe only at one point

backpressure = torque

my automotive instructor builds dragster cars, thats the one thing the whole crew knew and always said.

You need backpressure. Dyno results also prove it.

show me some dyno results.

youre wrong , sorry

scavenging exhaust gasses from a motor at a higher velocity will make more power than scavenging gasses at a lower velocity. tuning a header collector for diameter, length etc is to allow it to propel these gasses from the motor faster. some people confuse this for reasons of "backpressure" when in fact a 5 inch tube may not always flow air faster than a 2 inch tube. just as intake manifold runners are designed to flow air as fast as possible into the motor, the headers are designed to flow air away as fast as possible. never would you want to clog up your motor with air that was already used and not useable. you people are idiots. thanks.

if your losing power or torque by removing mufflers, its not because you lost BACKPRESSURE. your motor will always make pressure its called combustion. the reason you MAY lose power or torque is because your stock or barely modified engine isnt making enough exhaust gas to flow at peak speed through your exhaust system. the exhaust gas now tumbles and collides in the piping. if you were to remove your mufflers and decrease your exhaust pipe diameter you would see higher power numbers.

Correct. also for you guys who say straight pipes lose power what do you think the inside of a SLP loudmouth,magnaflwo or any other straight threw muffler looks like? its straight threw with sound deaded material around it (minus the slp setup). while it wont hurt power unles you arent making power, it does in my opinon sound liek crap its just alot of noise not music.

it wasnt directed at you. it was directed to the people who assumed they had the knowledge. anyone simply asking a question is NOT an idiot

so did you have a complete catback made without mufflers? or did you just weld in straight pipes? if your going to spend 400 bucks on slp exhaust your better off just doing as jack the ripper did and saving some bucks and some weight. also you wont have big redneck tips.

with exhaust mods usually you woulnt be able to feel a difference. sometimes the sound can trick you into feeling one way over another. now headers are a different story

It would be different if we were talking about dragster's, but were not. Mufflers will not make backpressure, so if you remove them, there wont be a difference.

If I were to dyno a car with and without cats, youd noticed the dyno run with cats will pump out a whole killing 2-3 extra pounds of torque, while decreasing hp by 2-3. Aand vice versa, with no cats.

Obviously nothing the *** dyno will pickup. Nor do I really care, Im just simply stating that backpressure will make a few extra pounds of torque, while sacrificing a little horsepower.

Its not like I dont know wtf im talking about, im a technician for a stealership, i meant, dealership.
