Default chips/tuners

okay guys...im really lost on this subject. After doing most of the bolt ons to my 97 GT, i want to do a chip or a tuner...so which should i do or can i do both?? i saw on this site that i can buy a SCT Superchips Custom Eliminator 4-bank chip, which supposedly just gives instant hp...or should i buy the SCT XCalibrator 2 Tuner, or can i buy both?? im just really confused because i am done with all the modding to my car, i just want to get it running how it should now. Also, can you explain what a REV limiter is and what the coin bezel switches do?? Any help on the chip/tuner subject will be helpful...thanks

You can only use one or the other!

Read this thread. It will help describe the difference between a chip and a tuner. Keep in mind they essentially work the same way.

BTW, you are never done modding your car...I can't tell you how many times I said that - LOL

The rev limiter is a safety device that prevents the driver from ruining the engine by causing it to rev too high. If you smash your foot on the gas pedal, the car will only rev to about 6200 rpms and then the fuel and spark cuts out momentarily only enough so that the rpms drop, then they will go back up again until the limiter is hit again. Most performance tunes will raise the limiter slightly to take advantage of the power curve. On a Mustang, it is not as big of a deal, because they rev agressively anyway, but it does help.

I would never recomend removing the limiter completely. It is there for a reason and might prevent you from buying a new motor.

Coin bezel switch? I assume you are referring to the switch for the SCT 4 Position Chip. This is a dial that allows you to change programs. These chips can be tuned with 4 dicrete programs and the driver can shift the tunes on the fly. This is useful for having say a nitrous tune or tuns for different octane ratings. Or, an agressive tune for drag racing. There are lots of options.
