Default 3.73 Gears

:icon_salu How much quicker will 3.73 gears make my car. It's a stock 2003 GT with a 5 speed trans. Thanks for the info!!! I also just put 295/35/18 tires and 18x10 wheels on the rear and now it feels like it takes off faster. I don't know it might just be my imagination.

Those larger rims, should actually make the car a little slower due to the higher amount of weight spread out across a greater radius and they tend to hook-up not as good because the side-walls are stiffer.

3.73 should take off bout 0.20 to as much as 0.40 in a 1/4 I would say.

i would say look at a steeper gear. you have a 5-speed so you wont rev that high.

Well, I went with the 3.73's cause my dad didnt want a 4.10 for a daily driver, but honestly, I think it would have been a better gear for my exhaust set up. The 3.73's put my car in the drone section at most of my normal speeds unless I go to 5th gear. They defiinately made the car a lot faster feeling, but sometimes wish I had gone 4.10s. Oh well, they are still a great gear, good luck.

Thumbs up

Hey, thanks for all the info. I'm going to have to make up my mind now. It's either 3.73's or the 4.10's. I just want to have that feeling of extreme exceleration on fast take offs. It feels to slow on take offs with the stock gears, but it pulls damn good in 3rd and 4th gears with the stock gears. I want to get them done by the end of the month.

I was thinking about getting 3.55 or 3.73 gears since I want to add a supercharger later down the line, but if I don't I'll still be happy with those gears. My friend just got 4.10 gears since his rear end ceased and he had to replace the entire thing. Now everytime he is in 3rd gear around 40mph and downshifts to second and floors it for that "snap" his tires burn out

don't get the 3.73s unless you plan on a power adder...you will be disappointed. I got 3.73s because I thought I wanted to get a blower down the road but plans have since changed and I wish I would have went with 4.10s. I guess theres always another shot to change when I build the rear end though.

I knew that Id never supercharge my car, but just wanted a little more, so I went with the 3.73s. I kinda like that I dont burn the tires when I downshift to 2 really fast. Oh well, some like em, some dont.

How much of a difference is there from 3.73's to the 4.10's? Can you really tell?

lol just get 3.90's you can't go wrong in the middle

That's what I plan on doing. Too much divergence between the 3.73 users and the 4.10 users

You just adjusted your 3:73s (if you get them) to 3:55, with the upage on those rear rims.

245/45/17 stock tire height 25.68"
295/35/18 26.31"

If you are going to run those tires you should go with 4.10's. Your car is actually slower with the new tires.

i have a 5psd and im gonna go with 3.73's...i had 4.10's on my other stang..man let me tell you, awesome accel in 1/4...but top end suffers dramaticly..my top speed (it was an auto) was about 101...and thats it...now i will admit to some speeding on the highway and i love going fast...but if you really dont like top end then go with the 4.10's...but if you want to conserve that high speed then go with 3.73's.

I trap at 107 in 3rd with 4.30's on a automatic. Most 99 & newer manual GT's with 4.10's can still hit 130+. If you race you want to be running out of gear going throught the traps (6200 rpm).

Man, how the heck do you hit 107 mph in 3rd gear. I can barley hit 85-90 with my stock gears? Thats damn fast.

Same here. I think in 3rd gear my car goes to 85-90 before it hits the redline
