The SLP will be MUCH louder. The American Thunder is only slightly louder than stock. There is no comparison between the two.

I'm personally getting a little tired of the bullet style muffers. I miss the old flowmaster sound. ...

SLP SLP SLP SLP SLP its the ONLY way to go. the last time I was at the track a guy running a 01 gt came up to me and said "what exhaust is that" I told him it was SLP and his exact words were "Thats way louder than my flows", and then he asked where I got it, becuase he wants to get SLP.

i have the Flowmaster American Thunder catback, and really like it, although when i really start getting into the HP, i'll probably switch to the SLP since it's bigger or go custom 3" all the way

i'd defintely go with a SLP x-pipe since they have cats and the ability to remove them easily and adapt to long tubes...i'd rather have cats on my x-pipe than not hear again

Your car does not make enough power to require 3" exhuast. 3" exhaust will rob power from most 2v's as 3" exhaust is not required until you are making 500+ rwhp...

good info SLP straight thru design will flow better than the chambered muffler (Flowmaster). It really comes down to sound preference.

No put the flows on it man. It wont sound like a real mustang if you have the SLP's on it. Remember SLP used to be a company devoted to camaros, then when the camaros went out of production they went for the mustangs. So it will really have the heart of a camaro.

Now, don't get pissed, you are certainly entitled to your own opnion and I respect that. But, since when do flows make a stang sound like a "Real Mustang"? You must have been born after 1985. I can tell you I have never seen a '68 stang with flows on it. Glasspacks for sure, but not flows. Flows did not become popular on Mustangs untill well into the fox body years. That means for the first 20 years of production, modded mustangs were more likely to sound like a modern day SLP exhaust and not flows.

As far as SLP jumping on the Mustang band-wagon, that is a true statement. But to discount them for that is just silly. If you believe in that philosphy that half the crap on your car you should throw away. Most everything on a modern Mustang was done first by someone else and certainly not Ford. I can't say for sure, but I believe GM came out with the TB injection before Ford used it. Certainly for sure, many after-market parts companies make parts for many different brands and not just Ford.

i've heard slp or flows (around a $400 catback), can get u up to 15-25% more hp...i really dont know how accurate that is. those numbers may be possible if u get a cai, catback exhaust (such as slp), and an x-pipe with cats. i personally am going with the slp loudmouth...hopefully i get some good gains with that and a good cai. anybody else agree or disagree??

You only get that kind of HP gain from changing your midpipe to an offroad-X. Add LT headers and your looking at arounda 35HP gain. Catback is really only good for MAYBE 5-10.

I guess I should have expected that. All I know is I love hearing the flowmasters from far away and immediately bieng able to tell its a mustang. They sound great to me but I guess every man has his own opinion.

Jeredan,

While I have never been able to compare SLP to FM side by side, I agree with you that I like the way FM sounds. My car NEVER gets confused with a stock Stang, and I get almost daily comments about how good it sounds. We all have different likes or dislikes, but we all agree on one thing, Stangs ROCK!

American thunder is quite a bit louder than stock, and sounds really deep more muscle sound than slp in my opinion. And the whole drone thing isnt even a problem, at 1700 rpm it kicks in but anywhere below or above you wont be bothered. I am happy with the sound of the system.

thats why i said when i get into big HP, if i ever do

i prefer the sound of Flows compared those "bullet" mufflers like SLP and others.....but damn those SLP tips look good....the FM will look bone-stock, save for a 1/4" bigger tip

just remember "loud" isnt better...

A lot if you get a catless H. The volume of sound will increase tenfold with the h pipe. Get it, a cobra with flows and an h pipe is the sexiest youll ever hear. (opinion of course)

Seriously its all about the SLP. SAAWEET idle, almost sounds like new cams in it with the stock ones. And it just sounds like a race care when your goin for it....pure muscle sound.

Listen to my clip : Mustang SLP exhaust I'll be makin another exhaust vid tonight for you, just to give ya a real idea.
