Cobra Cams
Looking to upgrade my 01 Cobra engine....was looking to get new cams but can't seem to find any around for under 1600?! is that right or am i just looking in the wrong place?
Also should I do anything else to the engine besides cams? (and of course the other components of a cam swap)
Thanks for any input

No, thats correct for cobra cams. Well, that should be about everything, cams springs, etc. Honestly, dont spend the money on the cams, go with a blower. 4v engines love boost, and there isnt a better bang for the buck.

Honestly a set of Cams on stock heads and intake manifold are not very bang for the buck. The cams you've seen for that price are probably the FR500 Cam Kit..which includes Valves, springs, retainers, lifters, rockers etc. and is good for nearly 8,000rpms. Other grinds are available from Crower and Comp Cams but in general they will only add ~20rwhp with a broader torque curve. The money could be better spent elsewhere honestly.
In a max effort N/A motor cams might be beneficial. In a blower application the stock cams have powered many 9 second rides.
My car will be getting a set of 03/04 Cobra heads with mild cleanup (light bowl work, minor exhaust porting, serdi 5 angle valve job, hand blending, and improvement of short turn radius.) This with a stock 01 intake manifold and cams should create 340-350rwhp with stock cams. With FR500 (which is what i'm purchasing) it will be ~380 rwhp. With an appropriate short runner intake which will allow for over 1,000 max rpm increase (~7500 vs. 6300 stock) it should make 410rwhp. This is going to cost close me close to $3,000 however as I have to purchase Heads/Intake manifold/CAI/Headers/Throttle body brackets and cables, cruise cables etc.
I would say the cam selection just depends on the car's purpose and overall goals. I am going this route because it's different and fun. If your going Forced induction just skip it and take care of all the small things that go with the supercharger. The car will eventually be forced induction, but this is the plan for now.
Good Luck with your decision.
