Exclamation Shorties, or Equal length??

Which have been proven over time on the 4.6 shortie headers or equal lengths?

Shorties are better than stock manifolds.Equal length can be the mid -length set up from Bassani,or long tubes from anyone else. The long tubes will make the best power, but are the hardest to install. They also require MIL(Malfunction Indicator Light) eliminators to shut off the Check engine light that you will have after installation.I believe these can also be shut off with the use of a programmer.Bassani makes Mid-Length headers that allow you to use the stock O2 sensors and therefore avoid CEL messages on the dash. These headers also go in one pipe at a time and can be installed without raising the engine.Shorties install in place of the stock manifolds and bolt directly to the stock exhaust system.Shorties increase power the least in most cases, but there is a set available from JBA that people say make almost as much power as long tubes.I have never seen a test so I don't know about this for sure.Bassani sells the complete exhaust from head to bumper and as tested in MMFF makes about 17 RWHP on a stock 2002 GT.About the claims of HP increases in advertisements. When you see "increases of 10 to 25 RWHP possible"the results are probably true at one time or another, but the high numbers are usually for supercharged engines. The lower numbers are for N/A cars.

Long tubes, man. Hands down. And try some Nitto 555Rs for that traction problem.

the equal lengths are relatively new for the mod motor but seem to give better results than the shorties. The only company I know of that makes equal length shorties, or as they call them, tuned length, is BBK.

I have yet to see dyno results from the tuned length headers alone, but I have seen dyno numbers from a supercharged GT that are pretty much identical to others with long tubes. Keep in mind that this is not a very good comparison because the tuner could have added more timing or the car could be running more boost. I only mentioned this to show that power can be made with these headers, as well as shorties.

Exclamation

well i had longtubes on my other mustang was an 02 v6, hated them because they dragged on the floor after a bump, and hit speed bumps, sounded great though performance was definetly there....but i was just wondering if maybe the equal lenghts might give me longtube performance without having them saggin down..

I have heard that if you go with shorties, to go with the JBA's. I heard they make the best power for SHORTIES. I know they are expensive though. Would like to see gain on the bbk tuned lengths.

No dyno numbers for my BBK tuned length headers here, but they feel identical to the difference I felt with the old long tubes. I went with the tuned length to avoid having to get ceramic's, the "tuned length" are still shorties though, a few people have been talking about them as if they were different. Anyways, They sound awesome, feel very strong, although, probably less than the JBA's gain. I have seen dynos for the JBA's and they seem to gain anywhere from 6-9rwhp on N/A GT's, which is pretty damn impressive, I assume from the sotp meter that mine are probably around the same, and much cheaper. I do have problems with the speed bumps after the headers, but my car is lowered, full exhaust, and only really scrapes when I have 3 or more people in teh car.

i would get the BBK tuned length shorty headers. they are the best shorty headers you can buy. If you get long tubes you will see a little more horsepower but if you get a mid pipe it all equals itself outbecause you get more HP outta a longer mid pipe than a smaller one. I would get a mid pipe before headers anyway also they don't make long tubes for autos so if you have one keep that in mind.

:BLACK2: i put this up cuz it looks cool. ehh this one too :naka:

wtf? gang bang rape? :3some:

no competition for the 4.6's go with LT's.... best bet.. for tht equal length to shorties.. i highly doubt u'd be able to tell a difference between the two..

How hard is it to install long tubes? I was just fixing to get the slp long tubes and I want to know if it will be worth it to have someone else install them.

i don't know first hand but talk ed to people who have and from what i read, it's a PITA... the easiest way i guess they talk about is to pull a mtor mount and rock the motor to one side and then change the manifold out.. and then the same for the other side... so yea it'd prolly be easier to have a shop or some one doit.. if your into havig others work on your car.. lol

LongTubes are the best way to go unless you live in Cali.

The shorties are **** in my book. I have both and I love the LongTubes

Will the Bassani fit an automatic 01 GT? I have heard that only a few of the LT's will fit the auto tranny.

from what i have heard the shortties are crap. I have SLP long tubes on my 01 and I love then. Now they were a pain to install but then i did it without removing the k-member. I have never had a problem with them hitting anything either.

How did you do it without removing the k-member? I hate the thought of dropping my whole front suspension.
