New Headers and Mid Pipe

Hey guys, I'm looking for some help making a decision on my next exhaust setup. For the catback I'm decided (Borla Stingers), but for the headers and mid pipe I'm undecided. I'm set on getting long tube headers that are coated or ceramic and a O/R H-pipe. What my question is, what brand of headers and h-pipe should I get? I want something that is a quality part and will be good fitting and won't make for a more difficult install.

Thanks for your help in advance,
Shawn

I got BBK long tubes, but thats only cause I got them used for $250. If you got the money SLP, KOOKS, or even the Bassani has a good set of mid length headers.

I will look more into Kooks and Bassani, thanks.

MAC.... I haven't put mine on yet but they are good quality and cheap... Just a suggestion

99MustangGT 06-09-2010 06:17 PM

I originally wanted to go with a MAC setup, but I've heard some horror stories about installing them on new edge mustangs. I guess everyone has something to say about every company.

Kyanbi 06-09-2010 09:07 PM

Personally I would stay away from SLP. I've never really cared for their exhaust products and it looks like you've already eliminated them, which is good. Myself, I'd go with Kooks. Looks like they make damn good headers but Bassani is also top-notch! But damn is Kooks expensive: http://www.kookscustomheaders.com/show.php?pid=62

Shit those are expensive! I just don't have the coin to buy that exhaust setup for almost $2000.

Found another good set: http://www.lethalperformance.com/exh...3_605_623_2495

The only thing with the ARH headers is that it comes with the x-pipe. I'm starting to like the MAC longtubes again what do you guys think of these paired up with an O/R h and borla stingers: http://www.lethalperformance.com/exh...headers-p-1530

rkaz 06-10-2010 12:20 PM

Whatever you get the o/r h pipe is a MUST. I had a o/r x and it sounded shitty. After I got the long tubes I knew I didn't want anything but the h, and I love it.

99MustangGT 06-10-2010 03:54 PM

Yeah I already have my mind made up for getting a h pipe, the x just sounds to raspy.

Does anyone with a new edge know about the fitment of MAC longtubes?

rkaz 06-10-2010 07:56 PM

I seen this and thought of you. http://mustangforums.com/forum/parts...ic-coated.html I don't know if it maybe along the lines of what you would want, but just sharing.

99MustangGT 06-10-2010 08:10 PM

Thanks for the thought, but I'm looking at getting the MAC setup. That's a really good deal though, how hard was it getting yours in?

rkaz 06-10-2010 08:14 PM

The hardest part was realizing I couldn't do it myself in my yard. I then had to kiss the old lady's ass for the $300 to have a shop put them on. I stayed at the shop and watched the guy install them. He didn't have much trouble, but he had a lift.

99MustangGT 06-10-2010 08:24 PM

Ouch, I deffinately want to put them in myself but if I have to get them done I will. I know the bbks had problems they tried to fix for fitment by putting a bend that wasn't necessary.

rkaz 06-10-2010 08:32 PM

I don't like the almost crimped look of the one pipe on the driver's side that your talking about. It seems to be a lazy shortcut that no other companies take to get around the steering shaft, but I got like $700 in the headers and everything it took to get them on and that is with labor. I am fairly happy with them all and all.

99MustangGT 06-10-2010 08:48 PM

That's really not that bad, the engineering is what I don't like about it. Maybe I might reconsider that post.

rkaz 06-11-2010 05:52 AM

Well I've never had a car with headers, but I could tell the car pulls harder now. I don't know if any other brand would be better or not, but for the money I got in these I am glad I got them.

bassman97 06-13-2010 07:55 AM

Keep in mind that cheaping out will bite you in the ass. That's why I got rid of my long tubes. Also, word of advice on installing: remove the k-member. Take it from me, it's impossible to install them otherwise. But whatever you decide to go with, make sure the collectors are ball-and-socket (if not, by the collectors from Flowmaster), get good header gaskets, locking bolts, and keep an eye out for tight clearances. Every car is different and anything that looks tight you need to dent the tubes to make room. Take your time and don't cheap out and you'll love your headers.

spike_africa 06-13-2010 02:49 PM

Get ceramic coated MAC's and their H-pipe and you will love it. Fit is good and makes power for decent price.

99MustangGT 06-13-2010 09:59 PM

Alright guys, I will be getting the headers and h pipe from MAC in the next couple of weeks. I will hold off on the Borla Stingers for a while since it costs so much and I dont mind the way my exhaust sounds now. It is definately not stock, but I have no clue what was done to it before I bought it.

spike_africa 06-14-2010 11:14 AM

Have you looked under the car to see what it has? Maybe it just has welded in mufflers or just an o/r mid pipe on it already. Just go take a look.

rkaz 06-14-2010 12:25 PM

I'm with spike, get under the car and see what you got. Most brands stamp their name on the part.

White04GT 06-14-2010 12:29 PM

I have Kooks lt's and x-pipe and I love them!

99MustangGT 06-14-2010 10:38 PM

I will climb under the car in the morning and check to see what it has on it. I've taken a quick glance at it before, but didn't notice anything other than stock.

probiker427 06-15-2010 04:50 AM

yeah check it out before you buy anything who knows u might have an o/r mid pipe under there, might get lucky lol

99MustangGT 06-15-2010 06:01 PM

Well, earlier today I checked out my current exhaust and I didn't find anything special, just some 'Pro Sound' weld in mufflers. They do sound pretty good for a weld in muffler, but I should get a video and show the change after I get the new exhaust.

spike_africa 06-20-2010 08:17 AM

Never heard of Pro sound.

99MustangGT 06-20-2010 11:10 AM

I have never heard of them either and I wasn't able to find anything on the internet. They do sound pretty good though.
