Gears in rain and snow
I know theres a million threads about what gears to get but i looked everywhere and couldn't find the answer I wanted. Im getting gears in a month or so and choosing between 410s and 373s. Id much rather have 410s but my question was whether 410s would still be able to go threw rain fairly easily without the back end slipping out because of it spinning the wheels more with a taller gear? Also likewise for a small to minute amount of snow. Trust me the last time I tried to drive my car in a inch of snow up a hill didn't turn out so well. I got stuck half way up and the only way I got up was to switch the TC off and spin my tires the whole way up. F**k'n PA hills lol
The biggest thing is, you have to learn to finesse the gears and when to use common sense. Obviously, it wouldn't be smart to stomp the pedal of a V8 rear wheel drive car with 4.10's in the rain. Basically, they will be fine in the rain as long as you keep your foot out of it and take it easy.
I don't know about the snow. I live in Florida.
Edit: And having a good set of tires will help with the rain, too.

if you dont drive stupid the car will be fine in any kind of weather conditions.
4.10's arent some kind of magical gear that will make your car this insanely most impossible thing to drive on the road...sure there is a little bit more throttle response but nothing thats gonna get the car squirelly at the blip of the peddle.

Ive pretty much decided on 4.10s but not 100% sure yet. Im saving up nw and will be buying them and getting the SCT tuner with a 93 octane tune sometime before Ford nationals in Carlise, PA in early june
if you use name brand gas, its a big difference. the car feels stronger and i did not sacrifice anything noticable in regards to milage.

Not much. All you're doing is adding a few more degrees of timing. You may feel like it revs faster. I thought that maybe my car reved quicker when I got a 93 octane mail order tune, but I wasn't exaclty sure. It might have just been in my head because it was a new mod on the car. Other than adding cams, a power adder, or nitrous, you will get the most performance out of gears and longtube headers, and then a dyno tune.
I have 3.73's in my '98 GT. Drive it year round. Rain, sun or snow...drive through it all.
I have V6 wheels with studded winter tires, though most studs are gone. It goes through snow quite well, but forget any kind of medium to steep hills from a stop or near stop. 99% of the time, I was fine. Only when we got 14 inches of snow did I have any problems and once things were plowed and salted, I was fine.
For Summer, I run 275/50-15 BFG DR's. In the rain they are ok, I drive easy in the rain. Rest of the time I drive like I always do.
Your ability to have more than on or off throttle control is the key. No matter what season it is.
I am quite happy with the everyday operation of the 3.73 gears. 4.10's would be fine too. I may in fact go to 4.10's or 4.30's if I start running my car at the drag strip seriously again. But first I have to make a serious run with the 3.73's to see how they perform.

I was on the fence deciding between 3.73 and 4.10's....so I got 3.90's. Mine's a manual though. Not really a big deal. If I could do over, I'd go with 4.10's.
I don't drive in snow, but I did get caught in an early storm once and my factory gears(with wide tires) was bad! I could barely get up my driveway. I think its more the wide tires and rear wheel drive than the actual gear ratio. Maybe get some good snow tires?
