Default 4.6 question

if u put pi heads on 96-98 u get more power. would it be the same to put them on a 4.6 lincoln continental block? is it even possible? i know they both have 90.2mm bore and 90mm stroke. im curious cause the continental has a compression ratio of 9.8 At least thats what i read

Continental engines are FWD and have a different engine mounting and bellhousing bolt pattern, so you Cant Use it in a RWD car, now a MK8 block can be used but not a Conty

Some of the first ones are old school nonPI 2v motors. You can put PI heads on any modular block. That's the beauty of the modular setup.

If it has 2V heads on now, then yes, you can put PI heads on for a boost in power. But if it has 4V heads on now, switching to 2V will kill power.

9.9 is the compression ratio of the mark VIII. with pi heads, would it make a little more power than the 96-98 mustang with pi heads? i know the mark VIII engine is lighter

Mark VIII , Continentals, Most Navigators, and all of the Cobr'a came with 4V

Is your Q,( "can I put a short block engine from a Continental in my GT with the PI heads on it." )
I would say not easly! Like the guy said a few post up, the Conti's are FWD and the block is diffrent then RWD.

Your second Q ( " can a short block Mark VIII with PI heads fit in my car and will it make more power." )
Yes it will fit and YES it will have more power then the stock set. Compression will be the "power adder"

All 4V engines came with Flat top / 3cc dish pistons while the stock NPI short block hade like 11cc dish.
PI engines have 17cc dish

I dont see where the guy asked if it would fit in his mustang so I will answer the question he did ask.

To the OP, yes they will physicly fit. BUT you need to make sure its not a downgrade first(In other words, make sure you have nPI heads on it currently)

so would the 4.6 4v block with 2v pi heads be a good combination. i dont think i could afford the whole 4v swap. i would still be making at least the 260 hp right? mark viii are rated at 280hp.

yes it will, I have the aluminum Cobra block, which is the same as the 1996 to 1998 MK8 block, in my 1996 GT wth the "D-46" SOHC heads...
