Flowmasters (Slowmasters) at about 2,000 rpm under load are very load but the other rpms it's very pleasant. I'm sure any flow-through muffler is fairly loud also (such as Hooker Max Flows).

Ive got a magnapack on mine (coupled with BBK LTs and a catted H) but I had just the magnaflow for the first couple of months. Its not as loud as SLP loudmouth but it does sound really nice. With the headers and the midpipe ITS AMAZING!

I've got a bassani exhaust but I've also got headers and a catted x pipe, mine is real loud and sounds really nice. I would never put flowmasters on my mach they just dont produce the correct sound for these cars and there are more performance brands out there.

I just put Flowmaster 40 series on my GT and I was wondering if I need to get another tune?

Open headers is when you just run the headers. No midpipe, catback, or mufflers attached. Basically, it's only the headers with the exhaust coming straight out of them.

Here is a sound clip of a Mustang with open headers:

I'm just curious, but why don't you want LM1s?

I don't think it gives any performance gains. Just makes the car incredibly loud. Are you asking if the sound in that video is a crack in the Flowmaster mufflers? Because if that's what you mean, that car doesn't have any mufflers. It's just running headers. Nothing from the headers back.

And no, you shouldn't need a tune if your Flowmaster 40's are an axle-back exhaust mod. You should be fine.

Man, I wish I didn't have emissions here. I'd do an open header setup in a heartbeat.

Naw, I'm good with my Magnaflow system. Maybe if I ever get one of the S197s, but that'd be down the road.

My vote goes for:

MAC Longtubes
MAC Offroad H-pipe
SpinTech Side Exhaust

Before I swapped my 5.4l in I had one of the loudest cars around at full throttle. The only car that could keep up was my buddies Camaro SS with full exhaust.

I have a full SLP exhaust and it is loud as all hell when I open it up. I cringe when I think of how loud it would be with open headers. I have not heard a Mustang louder than mine in my area. You can literally hear my car a mile down the road and no, I'm not kidding.

Loudest isn't always the best way to go.

Maybe not to you. But I like a loud, ballsy muscle car. Nothing better sounding in the world. That's just me, though. To each his own.

Mines loud also, but some catbacks just sound like total crap kinda like straight pipes do.

Thanks. I think my 40's sound pretty good. I am hearing some intermittent rattling though.(only at certain RPMs) I guess that could be common when you upgrade from fact. exhaust

If you like it, that is all that matters.

I have some rattling, too, during lower RPM's and when the car is in drive/reverse and idling. I've had it ever since I got my headers and midpipe installed in mid August. After 2 months of searching and thinking I'd never find it, I finally found out what it was. One of the rubber pieces in one of the hangers was worn out and the hanger on the pipe was hitting the metal, so I just ordered new exhaust hangers. Hopefully, it'll be fixed this weekend.

I laugh whenever I read threads like this. So what is your goal with the "loudest" exhaust? Do you want to get a ticket? Do you want to be the most annoying car in your neighborhood? Do you plan on having a conversation with the person sitting in the passenger seat? Do you really need the extra attention?

Don't get me wrong, I love V-8's with a nice strong exhaust note, but I don't understand the purpose of wanting the "loudest" exhaust.

Just my 2 cents

Indeed. The last thing I want is more attention. The cops (at least around here) have really been on the hunt since the economy went down the toilet. I want something louder than stock, but not THAT loud.

Thanks for the info, especially the DB levels. Some of the WOT numbers seem a bit high, but it wouldn't suprise me on some of them.
