Default Headers And X-Pipe ???

I'm asking this question for my brother he's got an 03 GT with a x-pipe and flowmasters. He's been wanting long tube headers for a while and he asked a guy at a Meinke how much it would cost to put on long tube headers and the guy said it was illegal that he should stick to stock or shortie headers. I told him that didn't sound right so he told me to ask you guys if you know if it is illegal we live in North Carolina?? Also if it isn't he wants to know since he's already got a x-pipe if the exhaust shop could modify it to fit the long tube headers?? And how much would it cost for them to put on the headers and modify the x-pipe?

Thanks
Chris

having LTs shouldn't be illegal, the only thing that's going to make it illegal is that it doesn't pass emissions inspections, which having an O/R pipe would do (like stated above )

LT install is pretty expensive, I usually hear quotes around $500-600. Me and my dad installed mine so I couldn't tell you, but I do know it's a helluva job

Thanks thats what I thought I think the guy at Meinke didn't want to mess with it. His x-pipe does have cats. But does anyone know if an exhaust shop can mod. his x-pipe to fit LT's?? And how much it would cost to mod the x- pipe and install the headers? I also told him to think about get the Ford Racing headers and getting Ford to put them on. Personally I would trust Ford more than a exhaust shop.

Thanks
Chris

Ford would do it right but the cost would be insane.

Its only illegal if it doesnt pass inspection. Like, too loud, or no cats. Dont let him get shorties, as they are basically a waste of time. Just get the longtubes, and a catted midpipe.

Yeah I told him Ford would cost him but I personally would feel better if they did it than going to exhaust shop and them messing something up. Do you think he can get the headers put on and the x-pipe modified for under $800?

Thanks
Chris

If your planning on getting a dealership to install them, better carry $2k, they are going to straight rob you :cwm21:
