Default New 98 SVT

Well hello all I picked up my 98SVT yesterday and have been toying around with it, the car already has SLP exhaust and 4.10's and a few other minor things, ill post pics when i can. I bought the car with a CEL but the codes were 02 sensors so i figured it was due to the exhaust. I love the car and it will be see alot of mods in the near future but im just curious if anyone know where i can get a 02sim for my car so that i can get rid of the CEL if the exhaust is whats causing it....any help will be appreciated

You should have 4 02's, 2 before the cats and 2 after the cats.

cool cobra, that hood is a shame though. whoever put that on there was not thinking clearly, as the stock cobra hood is a great looking hood.

welcome to the boards!

You keep saying zip tied...what exactly is zip tied? There will be 2 02 bungs before the cats and 2 bungs after the cats.

ok you got the 2 sensors after that cats right.... well i dont.... theyre not there. theres not even a hole in the exhaust for them and the plugs that go to the actual sensor is tied away to a bracket next to the tranny....understand? sorry its confusing....

You just need to either get a tuner and turn them off in the tune or use MILs and those plug in between the stock harness and the o2 sensors. Either one of these ways will fix that problem.

The rear o2s don't control fuel they are only there for emissions purposes. Do you have a stock mid pipe? It doesn't sound like it and it sounds like whatever they put on it was rigged up. lol no offense!

You can get the sct or diablo tuners. Both should get you what you need. Check with you local speed shops that tune cars and see what they use. My shop uses diablo so that's what I got.

thank you, i feel bad asking so many questions being the new guy but i guess thats what you get when you buy a used car lol. I found out my car has the MIL's on the rear but there is no 02 sensor plugged into them so my final question is! when using the MIL's do you have to have the 02's plugged into the exhaust or can you tie them away somewhere if so where and how?

They dont have to be in the exhaust as the MIL's just trick them into thinking everything is fine. Sounds like you have other problems.

Ok well I finally ran my Seafoam through the vacume line and it huffed and puffed and blew alot of **** out but after getting on it she still bogs down in high RPM's.... so im still working on that problem.... any other ideas... next steps... i pulled my plugs they still look like theyre in good shape and the wires look aftermarket (blue with 1-8) so im assumeing theyre newish.... its really embarassing to drop a gear and get on it to find out your car thinks otherwise.... so any ideas are appreciated.... and thank you for all the help thus far

Yes, you are goin to have to get o2 pluged in or the mil's will not work

Hey, it is my understanding that the MIL eliminators require not only that your rear O2's be plugged in, but that they also be installed in the exhaust. The MIL eliminators are nothing more than a filter, they dumb down the movement of the voltage back and forth so it no longer matches the front O2's signal which indicates to the computer that your cats are working because the cats are changing the gases going by the 2nd O2 sensor. This allows you to have no so great cats, or no cats, but the computer believe you to have them.

It sounds like you have no holes to install the o2's into, so you will either need to replace the mid pipe with one with the proper holes, or have the holes installed, or purchase a hand held tuner/ get a chip installed and a dyno tune) to have the rear O2's turned off so the computer will stop looking for the sensors and the codes will go away.

You should do one of these things, because Ford computers go into "limp" mode when the check engine light is on, that is the computer stays in open loop, or ignores the front and rear O2's signal, because it decides that if one O2 sensor is bad, all the others could be bad too, so it won't trust them. Instead it uses complex tables programmed at the factory to decide how much fuel to use, this and it retards your engines timing to be completely safe form hurting the motor, but it gives u less power and a rich mixture that can cause your hiccup.

I have experience with this, i have a 97 Cobra, and used MIL eliminators for a while when i got my OR pipe, then got a dyno tune and had the rear O2's turned off. No problems since then, except for when i got to go through emissions again.... but I'll prolly just put the stock h-pipe back on and pull the chip off the computer for a week to set the monitors, take the test, put the other stuff back.

So in short, either make it so u can install rear o2's or turn of the rear o2's via tune to get more power, better economy, no codes, and possibly fix your hiccup. BTW, nice Cobra, hope ya find a new hood soon though.

Whoa, somehow I totally missed your last post..... sorry bout that.

I have the same car and the same thing happened to me, it was the o2 sensor, when I replaced it and reset it shut off.
