Default odometer troubles

i posted a thread on another forum about how to fix my odometer gauge and a guy told me that ford could fix it for me for $500 and would not recommend that i do it myself because i can get into serious trouble. now my odometer stopped working at 41,000 miles for 2 years now and im estimating it has over 80,000 on the car. would ford go nuts if i took it to them now? and also i want to sell my car in the near future so if i dont get the odometer fixed would i still be able to sell my car?

If its an SN95 like mine then this is what you need and dont bother to get another cluster as it will just break again since the plastic the gear is of infeior plastichttp://www.speedometergears.com/

Im not sure if its legal or not to repair your speedometer but you should find out and disclose it to the buyer or tell them that you can fix it themselves. I fixed my speedo but since I dont plan on selling my stang doe not matter to me.

Basically, go to the DMV and file a form that states your odometer is bust. My old man said I'd have to do this when I did my engine swap, if I ever wanted to sell the car.

yeah one of my friends had to fill out a form and then they did a semi-investigation to see if he broke it on purpose but nothing serious. On a side note i have a 87 bonneville that the odometer rolled backwards sometimes while i was driving, then it would roll forward like nothing happened(but after taking off a few miles).

hell, i'd just order a new gauge cluster, or find one off ebay, take the glass off the replacement, adjust the miles to the current miles on your car, put the glass back on, then stick it in your car, make sure it works, then sell the car w/ the mileage that is displayed and not say a word about it.

you'll get more money for your car, and the speedo will be fixed.

someone is pulling your chain, first off you do not have to buy a "cluster" thats for 1999 up where its all one asbly.
1994 to 1998 you can just buy the speedo/tach part and Fords suggested list is only $308.33
