Default 2006 GT engine balks loss of power

Hi guys,

I'm a recently new owner of a 2006 GT. I was out this weekend and after a long highway drive, as I downshifted and accelerated on the exit ramp, I experienced some engine balking. Sort of like when a fuel injected engine is running out of gas. It happened twice, once on the way and once on the way back home. I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas if this is a normal occurance? It really took me by surprise. Thanks in advance for your help.

Could it be the "drive by wire" system on the new stangs? I believe that system deletes the traditional throttle cable system that previous stangs have and controls the throttle response by computer and some times there is a slight lag.

I'm sure you have some warranty left. If your concerned the best thing to do is take it to ford and have them check it out.

Thanks for the quick reply. You could be right, it kinda felt like the computer was cutting off the fuel or something. I'll check with the ford dealer and see. Thanks again.

Was your traction control on? I've had my traction control cut off power when shifting hard from 3rd to 4th and I don't have even close to enough power to spin my tires going that fast. It could have been that as well.

Yeah, the traction control was on. I haven't really experimented with turning it off yet. As I said, I am a recent owner and haven't had much experience with cars this powerful so was hesitant(chicken I guess) to take it off. But both of your ideas seem to possibilities. You never know nowadays with all this computer stuff.

Thanks

ah, don't be scared to turn it off. I turn mine off just about everytime I get into the car unless it's raining or I forget. It really just stops the tires from spinning too much by cutting off power. The traction control actually scares me more than the tires spinning. ha ha
