Cold air intake,plenum, maf questions
If I buy a plenum...I have to buy a new 70-75mm throttle body right? Then I have to get a cold air intake for those to perform at their best right? Then I have to get a larger mass air flow sensor? Do I have to get a new tb and maf or can I use the stock ones and buy a plenum and cold air intake?

Cost effiecent?
U want some good advice? - don't waste your money. The intake spacers will get about half the gain of the parts you're wanting, however the cost is too high for the 15-20 hp you get - the spacers are 50 bucks - buy nos - a gear - something else - just my 2 cents.

in answer to your actual question, no you don't NEED a new TB or a new MAF with the plenum or intake tubes or CAI's. A 70mm TB will be required as minimum to take advantage of the upper plenum, 75's are usually a little better in flow but not on the dyno for mildly modded cars. I'd get a 70mm. You don't need a larger MAF until you put in a power adder like a blower that's always on. Nitrous doesn't ever need a bigger MAF.
If I were in your shoes, I'd take a C&L plenum and 70mm FRPP or accufab TB (Accufab has impressed me a lot), and use a Steeda or BBK NON-fenderwell type CAI. Use your stock maf and enjoy yourself with about 10-12 more hp than you had before. You probably won't feel it till you get to 4000+ RPM but you'll feel a little there. NO FENDERWELL CAI's. THey suck and cause problems. Or, you can save the 4-600 bucks and put it away for a blower or some cobra brakes (first choice) or suspension mods. Those will really wake the car up more than 10 unfeelable hp. |
