Default Cam Install UPDATE

[FONT="Impact"]Well, It's sounding much better. For you guys that don't know my story here it is abbreviated. Installed Comp Cams 278'S and fired it up. I had a lot of valvetrain noise "CLATTERING". Even after running at idle for 15 min. So, I opened up the passenger side valvecover removed the lifters/adjusters bled them in a vise and gave'm a oil bath for a day standing straight up in the container. Reinstalled them last night and it seemed to help some. I let it warm up at idle then ran it at 3000 RPM for a minute. Then I took it on the highway for about 40 minutes. Varying speeds 50,55,60 then on the way home ran the R's up to 5000 got home opened the hood and it's purring. Granted not like stock but much quitter. Went from sounding like a diesel to a sewing machine. But, I'm not there yet. I'm going to drive it for a couple days and see how it goes. If the noise doesn't go away then I 'm going to replace all of them with some new ones. :shifty: /FONT]

I talked with Comp several times and every time I got the same answer.
They will work fine in a late model 4.6 PI head engine. They said I didn't need to do anything other than install them just like stock ones. Thats what I did.I'm not totally out of the woods yet. I have what is now light clatter from the adjusters.Haven't driven it enough yet. When choosing Cams you've got to weigh the advantages/disadvantages. I wanted the most for my money. I don't drive the car year round and it's only got 27,000 miles on it. I only drive a mile to work so I'm not real concerned about rough idle or MPG. I have a HD and an Explorer for daily driving most of the time. I've used Comp and Crane in other engines in the past and never had a problem. You'll hear HORROR stories about these Cams in Engines that they shouldn't have been put into or installed wrong. I don't believe everything written on the Web.Theres no way a Industry leader knowingly would sell you parts that would damage your engine .YES, my bottom end is FOMOCO STOCK.(for NOW)Man can I cyber gab or what sorry for the life story.
