Default x-pipe problems

after reading so much about o/r x-pipes i finally ordered one. it came in today and went and had it installed.i asked them to weld it in were applicable so that i wouldnt have to worry about leaks. as i was driving off, not only is it extremely loud with the slp loudmouth, it had a wierd sound come from the mid section of the car. it sounded as if it wasnt welded on but simply bolted on because when i would downshift it sounded as if there was a leak, like a really bad leak. the other thing is sometimes when i come to a complete stop the rpms drop way down to like 500 or below and then come back whether it is in nuetral or in gear. i kept the factory h-pipe just in case something like this would happen. is it that it just needs to be welded? or is it welded and having it tuned? thanks

a exhaust leak would make a ticking noise when it comes to a mid pipe. you can check the clamps where the x pipe connects to the cat back and if there is black stuff building up around there then you have a leak.

the consensous that i have seen on these boards with problems that you are having is normal when it comes to a o/r x pipe.

On my older o/r xpipe and my new one, I have the annoying clicking noise from the midsection of my car. I hate it. It starts a lil above 2k and continues to just before 3k. It sucks to sound freakin awesome up to 2k and then hear this weird clicking noise. I havent gotten it checked for a leak though, and I've heard of others with the same deal on their o/r X so I'm sure this is normal

if its not ticking u dont have a leak....it may be the fact that u have no cats and u can hear the air thru the midpipe.....

and btw...wat did u expect when u got an offroad x w/ LMI's?...a quiet car?....hahaha....

If you want to find out if you have a leak put in 4th or fith and lightly press on the gas then you should hear a lot of ticking, i have a frickin leak too, fricking anoying, there is alot of stuff you can do to patch up the leak also.... ive tried everything, but ALL are temporary

Its probably an exhaust leak you hear. You didn't say what brand it is, but I can tell you there is a huge difference in quality between different brands. I had a MT/Pypes catted xpipe and I tightened it numerous times, replaced gaskets, used copper gasket maker, and everything else I could think of and that friggin pipe leaked non stop. I switched to a steeda xpipe and it sealed right the first time and has never leaked in the year I had it.

its made by Flowtech which a guy bought out of a summit racing mag. i bought it from a guy that used it for maybe a thousand miles and sold the car because of financial resasons and wanted to get rid of the pipe. i was originally going to get the SLP but i couldnt see spending all that money. he sold it to me for 60 bucks so i took it.
