I have a 2000 mercury grand marque with a 4.6 V8. ( SOHC )

is this the same 4.6 that in the mustangs? if so, are there any differences? (valvetrain, exhaust) I'm not wanting to do much to the engine, but it would be nice to know what CAN be done as far as performance upgrades.

thank you in advance

meaning (theoreticly) i can put a mustang intake, and exhaust in and replace the main chip with a mustang chip.

Forgive my ignorance but, what are the PI heads? Port Injection?

anyone else comfirm the PI heads are from 2001 and up?

thx punisher

can anyone else give me some input on what can and what CAN'T be done to this engine? ( and no i'm not replacing the entire engine )

Thank You

The heads were changed in 99 not 2001. So you have pi heads and intake all ready. this swap of heads was done on al modulars in 99 including trucks and cars.

And for the chip. you dont replace a car chip with a mustang chip. what uyou do is get a custom chipped burned from here or someplace place. you get thsi and it is put onto your cars exsisting computer. you can use the shorty headers i belive from the mustang onto yours. they should fit.

they make intakes for yours so yyou can add that for like 5 more hp. then an exhuast setup with orr road mid pipe aka no cats and some good muflers. thn do 4.10 gears. and it should hual ***.

Thx spike.

So basicly i can put just about any "mustang" bolt-on on my engine? so long as i get the new chip with programing set up for whatever mod i have done. (except for exhaust.....)

Yes, and no. You have to remember that things are set up under the hood. Somethings may not bolt down the same.

if it was me i would get a set of either long tube headers. i think kooks makes some for you. if not then shorties add a off road h-pipe. I odnt knwo if these are made or if it would have ot fabbed up at a exhuast shop. then muffelrs, 4.10 gears and shift kit. Transgo rules. get a intake and pulleys (you can use mustang ones) thena tune and spray a 100-150 wet Hp of Nitours and run 13's with a boat of a car. hell maybe 12's if its good weather and to me that rules.

I also heard non Mustang 4.6 motors got PI heads late in the game...00 or 01... If you can get a look at the head, its easy to idenify, if you look around the exhaust port, PI should easily be visible.
