So, how awesome would my car be....

with some Steen Racing heads and Steen custom grind cams topped-off with some shorties?

Lances03SVT 01-20-2006 09:45 PM

Would be pretty damn nice Blake.Would sound awesome.

Mug11 01-20-2006 09:48 PM

Bah, shorties. Long tubes create better opening for big cams... But it would definatly be pretty sick.

That would definately liven things up a bit.

do it!!! :punk: I've been to steen and heard one it sounded sooooo sweet, made me want to just leave my car there, but I'm holding out for a blower.

madmatt 01-21-2006 07:02 AM

Not as awesome as it would be with a supercharger. AND, if you are going to pull the heads out, you better not skimp and put shorties on. LONGTUBES or NOTHING. That is all. Well, hmm, not that I think about it, port the heads, do the cams and longtubes, I forgot you already have the spray...hmmm. GO FOR IT

See, that is what I am thinking, sort of. The reason I may stick with shorties is a cost vs perf. issue. I am going to have Dave Kaufman do all the work and he can pull the heads and cams and install shorties w/o pulling the motor. With the lower cost of the shorties and the easier install, I am only out maybe 5 hp tops. The new heads will work just great with the headers.

Jason Steen estimates that all things being equal with the head/cam swap I should drop .6 - .7 in the 1/4 mile and in a stop light to stop light run, be just as fast as a blown GT if not faster. Sure, hit 4th and the blown GT is going to rape me.

personally i'd rock the blower any day over that setup. But it will be a beast if you go with that. I'd be afraid if i pulled up next to you. :) It'll sure sound mean.

See, this guy gets it!

A head and cam swap is also a lot safer then a blower especially on my 65k motor.

actually, when that was my plan, i did some extensive research into it...and it's actually just as stressful on the motor as a blower, depending on what stage cam/heads you get, except you can turn the boost down...i've heards storoes of people at the track with a head and cam job blowing theyre motors really easily
