Hmm...I plan on having an 02-03stang as my first car...my dad says im stupid and i shouldnt get a newer car...am i really stupid? lol (ive got enough to pay for everything)

Get what you like. If you like the newer style, then you should get it. If you like the older style, get that. If style is not a factor, then power and ride probably go to the new Stang. Personally, I like the 99-04 style better than the 05. But that is just me.

I told you not to be stupid you moron j/k. I would get a Mach 1 or Cobra 2003-04. They are cheaper now since the 05 came out. Problem with getting the new 05 is that there is no incentives so you will be paying top dollar and thats not smart when it comes to american cars. They lose their value rather qucikly.

I personally recomend from expierience to get a V6 as your first mustang, manual preferably, and learn on it like i did (and still do, lol) it has descent power (hey its a big v6, 3.8 is huge, lol) get one cheap, like i did ($3200+$700 tranny repair, + several hundred in mods, lol) and then when i am a bit older i get to upgrade (no not with 'mommies money' lol) to a newer GT or if god allows, a 96-98 cobra omg sexi, lol

Are you nuts? A 16 year old should never be given a Mach or Cobra.... they don't have the experience to handle that kind of power... not to mention the insurance payment is gonna have their whole family living in that car instead of in a house!

A new new car is alot of money. Having been a 16 year old myself, I know how they treat cars. A good portion of them wreck their first car. I'd get a bit older V6 for a "starter" car... then once you know you can handle it (and are making your own payments) buy yourself a GT/Mach/Cobra/Saleen.

I am making my own payments...no help from mommie and daddy.

Just get the 02 Stang GT 5 speed...I dont know about all this "if your 16, a GT is to much power for u " stuff..

I mean If we were talking about a 16 year old getting a Lamborgini or ferrari...now That SOME POWER that would be hard to handle..
GT's are only 260 at the crank....thats NADA.. GET THE GT..and if u can afford it...get a 03 Cobra...OH YEA BABY!!!

You just have to be smart with ANY car u get. Dont make stupid decisions on the road ..like going 60 in a 30 MPH road..and stuff like that.

and if u get a MUSTANG ....dont get a V6...till this day I wonder why people buy v6 stangs. Whats the point? there is no thrill with a v6...its all about the nice v8 sound.

There is something to be said for your first car. In my opinion, for someone getting their first car and under 20, a GT would be plenty of power to get you in trouble. When backing the suggestion about a Mach1 or Cobra, I wasn't thinking of age. With the GT, there are plenty of modifications that can be made and is a great car to learn about mods. And if you can get one for $10K, that is a very decent price and insurance may not kill you.

Because blue book value on a used GT with 45,000 miles is $16,000

so that $10,000 is a STEAL if the mileage is fairly low, and the car is in good condition!

the 02, wasnt GT...and it was 51K miles...lol, the car i ORIGINALLY wanted, was an 03, 0 miles for 14K, but it was sold...=(

Woah Woah Woah come on now. Im 16 and have more expierence with power than most people out there. Ive driven powerboats with over 1400 hp with tiwn sterling engines at over 130+ miles and hour and have raced many other powerboats. (Team Scream Boat)lol

Some people are just better and more able to drive cars at diffrent speeds and hp just dont have the stereotype that all young kids cant drive good.

But to the question on hand ive got a 00 v6 mustang and am only 16 and i paid $8000 for it with only 18k miles on it. Plus on my parents insurance i only pay 700 a year

Well since this is your first car you should always buy a beater... The V6 Mustang is not my cup of tea but it will get you from point A to B. This girl that works with me is sell her 95 V6 with only 38,000 miles garage kept for like $3000 obo. This car is in excellent condition looks brand new. If you like I will post pic for you on Monday when I get back to work.

I started out with a 1995 v6 stang myself. It was great for a first car, I had it for like 3 years. But after a while, I figured out that there wasn't anything under the hood for me. Even if I were to mod the crap out of it, I wouldn't get that lovely v8 rumble. So I got a 2001 GT when I was 18, great car, man I loved it. Here I am 20 with my 2003 GT.

I'm not saying don't get a v6, but I'm afraid you will be in the boat I was in, where it just wasn't enough power. Some kids cannot handle a car with power at a young age, and then some can. If you have a good head on your shoulder then you should be fine.

As far as the auto, a sports car to me has to be a stick. If you don't know how to drive a stick, then learn one quick. You will love it to death, trust me. When I first started out, I was scared because I thought I would stall out or something. But it is all mind over matter, like night and day from driving an auto.

I agree...you should go with a GT model...the good thing is since the redesigned stang came out all prices on the older models have come down drastically. I've got an '04 GT auto and although driving a standard is much more fun, for me it came down to convenience with Dallas traffic being so heavy...made more sense to get the auto. The only v6 model i would even think about buying is the '67.

There are always exceptions. I think MustangV6 is just one of the few that is probably both capable and mature enough to handle the hp. I've had friends at that age that were capable of driving cars with more hp. The problem was they weren't mature enough to deal with it and often did some pretty stupid things that I now realize we were lucky he didn't kill us.

Just get any GT 99 and up. Instead of getting a v6, get a GTwith a few more miles. Only if you are not going to do any engine mods then get the v6. In the long run you will spend more $$$ to make a v6 as powerful as the GT then if you would of purchased the GT. The non PI mustangs 96-98 have less HP and in order to get more power you would have to spend a couple thousand $$ to drop in the PI heads (99 up have these). The problem with this is since our pistons are different that the 99 up Gts when the head swap is done you will raise the compression ratio and dropping a supercharger or turbo will be a problem. In order to avoid this mess stick to 99 an up. I chose to drop in a Cobra motor in stead of the PI heads. One more thing 96-98 also has the intake crack problem on cyn #1 ,the 99 up have the improved aluminum runner on cyclider 1. I own a 98 and trust me stay away.

So, should I find a 99+ GT...or atleast try?

Yes get the GT... But be smart about it, don't do stupid things cause trust me these cars are unforgiving if you don’t drive them responsibly. Besides that they are lots of fun to drive and hear with some sweet exhaust setup.

Meh, in my family this is just how things have worked, we get a 'lesser car' for our first one then we get to sell it and get a nice car, lol.
When my brother was only 15 he got his 1994 Mustang V6 5spd, white with black and RED interior, its was pretty crazy. When he was in his junior year (as I am) he picked up his 01' GT vert 5spd silver... damn nice, so i am thinking in a year or so when my little brother is getting ready to learn how to drive... hes almost 14 now and he loves my car, so he will get that when he is 15 and i will get a newer GT, or if i can find one i would love a mach1 or 96-98 cobra... yum
My commute is pretty small, maybe 4 miles to school and even less to work, i live in a very small town and my school is the next town over... so manual just makes that trip that much more enjoyable... As far as the sound, my v6 has a hell of a sound to it, my friend with the 00gtcoupe silver prefers it over his =D

Edit: When my brother sold his 94, it has a nice sound system in it (Sony Xplode amp sub and a hell of a head unit that had a digital screen on it and folded down etc) and he had powdercoated white cobra rims on it, looked mighty good, he sold it and 2 weeks later the kid was taking it out for the second time and he totaled it, he had 2 girls in the car at that time, no one got hurt but the pony was gone forever... he had ran right through a flashing red light, which we all know is the same as a stop sign, and a women hit him from the side.. the drivers side i believe... My neighbor across the street had a 96-98 mustang v6 auto for his first car, (i would NEVER get an auto btw.. and car with a 5spd is 'sporty' enough for me, its fun =D) and i dont even know how it happened but for a while his car just disapearded and he drove a red jimmy around... then we found out it was parked in his garage totalled, dont know what e did but the front was ****ed up... just recently (this week) it is sitting outside with a tarp on it, and the tarp is coming off now..lol, now it is covered in 2+ feet of snow, lol

260hp can do alot of damage if you don't know what you're doing. Any car can, but you're less likely to get in trouble with a car with less power.

If you're gonna get a GT, get one thats a bit older, so that way if/when you wreck it you're not out as much cash as you are with a new one. Statistically, the odds are against you on this car.

Don't worry about headswaps and **** like the other guys are talking about... its your first car, you're not supposed to have the "perfect" vehicle in high school. Do bolt ons, have some fun with it, and in a few years buy a newer/more powerful one.
