i agree, some of these kids... wow... many near-hit-expiriences with kids i dont like to begin with, some of these kids... have stories about how many cars they have gone through. WOW... Many of them are driving a car that mommy bought them brand new (04' BMW ... 3 series i think) i know that he most likely wont make it through high school with that car, as you can commonly see him speeding through the parking lot as people are backing up right in front of him and he swerves out of their way nearly hitting peds.. almost every day and no one says nothing... stupid stupid people...

Well, it's all on you what you want. People are going to recommend what they think is good, but only you know what you are looking for.
Insurance is going to be half as much as a full-covered vehicle if you have it all paid off. So if you get a V6 or a V8, it will not matter insurance wise. Wether it's power, sound, looks, rear wheel drive, or insurance costs, your gonna have to think about your options. You have to weigh out what's the best bang for your buck, as in.. what you are looking for as of now and to come.
And my suggestion "IF" you want to get a V8, and you want rear wheel drive, and you want to drive hard, but don't want to risk spending that much on a very nice first car and regret any damages you may cause to it... would be to buy a 99+ Crown Victoria-Police Interceptor/or any 4.6L V8. This way you can still find modifications, pay about $4,000 for the car, drive it hard, learn and have fun with it if you want to.
First car I had was an 89 Lincoln Town Car and smashed it bad twice, both times from my heavy footed driving personality. That car could have took at least 10 more hard crashes, but I sold it and bought an 88 Town Car after that. I'm 20 now, if it would have been my GT at that point in time, all I have to say is I probably would have totalled it the first time.
Also, the traction-control in my GT has saved me a couple of times now.. It's very helpful to have when the tires break loose on cold streets and your foot is still glued down.
By all means, keep looking into the cars until you know what exactly you do and don't need.

Poor guy wont geta date with a crown vic. He is responsible enought to ask for advice and Im sure he will carry this attitude to driving. Since you are young dont do two things at once in the car while driving, listining to music, looking at girls pass by, looking down for a cd or anything else around the car and also chewing gum. If you buy a car that you do not like you will not take care of it and more likly abuse it.

m0nkeh 01-23-2005 04:44 PM

I will take care of my car, but I gotta listen to music, it makes me calm (guess im weird...lol)

Ghostalker 01-23-2005 05:29 PM

yeah, just not to loud that it makes all your other senses useless, your senses are made to work in unisen with oneanother, any time i am trying to park in a tight space or backup out of a tight parkinglot i turn the music down so i can concentrate, once i am out it goes back up, lol
=D

I was talking about having just liability coverage. All of the vehicles I have owned before I bought the GT were the exact same price for liability, wether it was a V6, Super High Output V6, or V8. It never changed, until I had a multiple car discount of course. But if I had one car it was always the same price. Maybe it's different for you guys?

venom 01-24-2005 08:26 PM

I think it depends on your age. As I asked my agent how much would it be for a 1999 Cobra or Cobra vert he said the same as the GT.

Han Solo 01-25-2005 05:14 AM

I say get at least a GT if you promise to be careful and reponsible with it. Check out local options to get your speed fix either in autocross or drags but do it on a track where they have the safety precautions taken care of. Be and look cool on the street!

Yeah, thats becasue its liability only.... which is just stupid IMHO

I'm 16 and a '02 Saleen was my first car... well actually 2nd car but I consider the first car as a temporary borrow car ('01 corolla). I drove the Corolla for about 6 months after I got my license and its been about 4 months since I've had my Saleen :)

Go with the newer car!

And as a comment to someone elses post about how 16 year olds shouldnt be able to have these cars. That is not necesarily true for everyone. There are people that are 10x more responsible than others their age. I never race or do stupid things because I know that my parents bought me the car and I don't treat it as mine I treat it as a gift they let me use. Sure a few dings here and there occur (i.e. car too low and scraps on driveways) but that happens to everyone.

m0nkeh 01-29-2005 08:22 PM

I'm hoping my insurance isn't too high, drivers ed + on parents plan(they are great drivers, no tickets ever, does that help me at all? lol) Also, I was wondering what springs I should get to lower my stang when i get it? (i want street performance, dont plan on racing really...)

p3s7_01 01-29-2005 10:06 PM

my insurance is about 2000 a year under my parents name + good grades

m0nkeh 01-30-2005 12:00 AM

What if I don't have too great of grades, but drivers ed is complete?

p3s7_01 01-30-2005 01:07 AM

...drivers ed has nothing to do with insurance. Drivers ed is just a class you have to take to get your pink slip to go take your permit test and then you have to wait 6 months or when you turn 16 and take 6 hours of drivers training before you can take your license test......

m0nkeh 01-30-2005 08:19 AM

noooo, when drivers ed is complete, your insurance gets lowered about 15% actuially in FL...lol

Ghostalker 01-30-2005 08:49 AM

here in CT we get 100 bux off for 4 years, and drivers ed cost me like 440 so it all works out =D (although it isnt a requirement here in CT that you do it, but you get your license 2 months sooner!)

m0nkeh 01-31-2005 10:13 AM

I've been in an accident before where a car spun out so I don't think you should make satirical comments about my fears okay?
